Job Summary

AECOM’s Transportation practice is seeking a candidate for the role of Manager Rail, Manitoba. This position will be based in our Winnipeg, MA office.

The responsibilities for the position will include but are not limited to:

  • Leading AECOM’s freight rail engineering team in Winnipeg, which is currently comprised of 7 staff.

  • Managing and growing the rail consulting business in Manitoba.

  • Collaborating with other provincial rail managers to share work and win proposals.

  • Collaborating on projects and pursuits as part of the north-American-wide freight and transit rail market sector team.

  • Periodic reporting on KPIs (financial, pursuits, client satisfaction surveys, headcount, utilization).

  • Tracking project performance. Following-up on project issues (financial, quality, safety, client satisfaction, lessons learned). Reporting for same.

  • Developing client and partner relationships.

  • Recruiting new staff (identifying staffing needs, cultivating key hires, writing requisitions, guiding recruiter, reviewing candidates, interviewing, recommending hires).

  • Being capture manager for projects and deputy capture manager for major projects.

  • Developing capture plans, writing proposals, team building, and business development.

  • Managing rail staff including hiring and performance management.

  • Managing projects, or disciplines on major projects, including preparing, monitoring and forecasting budgets, costs, scopes, project schedules, also sourcing and engaging staff.

  • Managing sub-contractors and suppliers.

  • Attending and chairing staff, project, and other meetings.

  • Supporting the ISO quality process.

  • Adhering to in Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) requirements. Includes completing all assigned training, ensuring that staff have completed their training, reporting safety observations, incidents, and near misses.

  • Collaborating with support teams from Finance, Legal, HR, Recruiting, Safety, etc.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent technical experience

  • 8+ years of experience with the following:

  • rail design and/or construction

  • as a project manager on rail projects

  • staff management

  • client-facing

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience.

  • Experience in consulting engineering.

  • Have both freight rail experience.

  • Have experience delivering to Western Canadian rail clients such as CN, CP, P&H, Viterra, etc.

  • Have a technical foundation in rail design and/or construction.

  • Have demonstrable network of client, contractor, and engineering contacts.

  • Have experience writing winning proposals.

  • Hold a P.Eng, PE, CEng, PMP, or similar designations.

  • Education and/or training in rail engineering.
