Job Summary

AECOM is currently recruiting for an Environmental Engineer /Scientist to join the Winnipeg, Manitoba office. This position will integrate into a well-developed team of environmental engineers, scientists, and technologists to provide support on projects in the contaminated sites field, specifically in the industrial, oil and gas, and government sectors. The appropriately qualified candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge in the area of environmental services for contaminated sites (Phase I/II/III Environmental Site Assessments and remediation), project coordination/management, and site supervision of remedial activities and will mentor less experienced staff.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Provide project coordination /management and technical expertise in support of AECOM environmental investigation, and remedial design /construction projects

  • Assist with developing and mentoring a team of junior engineers, scientists, and /or technologists. Provide oversight and review of junior staff work products for regulatory compliance, technical accuracy, and completeness. Oversee and coordinate work of junior staff and field technicians

  • Conduct project coordination, management of subcontractors, project management support

  • Prepare technical reports/deliverables related to contaminated site investigation, remedial planning and design, specifications, work plans, proposals, budgets, and project schedules

  • Maintain positive working relationships with internal, multi-disciplinary resources, client contacts, suppliers, contractors, engineering consultants, First Nations groups, local stakeholders, and external agencies

  • Assist in business development activities by supporting business development proposal efforts, identifying opportunities, supporting proposal efforts, and developing winning strategies

  • Develop health and safety and quality management plans and successfully implement for each task/project

  • Support and drive AECOM quality, project management, and performance management systems

  • Periodic travel, possibly to remote locations

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology/Hydrogeology; Environmental Science, Forestry, Biology or Conservation

  • 5+ years professional experience on environmental projects including Phase I/II/III ESAs, soil and groundwater characterization/assessment, hydrogeological assessments, contaminant chemistry, remediation and risk assessment projects

  • Qualify for professional registration in Manitoba

  • Strong scientific skills, including data collection, experimental design, data analysis and interpretation, and report writing

  • Strong working knowledge of environmental legislation under Manitoba Sustainable Development and Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) for Phase I, II and III ESAs, site characterization, soil and groundwater monitoring programs, and remediation of contaminated sites

  • Ability to direct and mentor junior staff with a focus on teamwork and integration within multidisciplinary teams on a wide range of technically challenging projects

  • Must be able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork

  • Excellence in communication (verbal and written) and collaboration skills that facilitate detailed planning, timely decision-making and efficient implementation

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Ability to manage time effectively in a dynamic work environment

  • Strong initiative and demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team

  • Willingness to work flexible hours under a variety of conditions

  • Must possess a valid class 5 drivers’ license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering

  • 8+ years of site investigation and remediation experience in Manitoba including experience in the Oil & Gas and Government Sectors

  • Experience conducting PFAS and fractured bedrock investigations

  • Knowledge of applicable Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Alberta environmental regulations

  • Proven track record in developing and sustaining client relationships in the Manitoba market

  • First Aid, crew boat operator or pleasure craft operator license, ATV/UTV/Argo, and other safety courses an asset

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset
