Job Summary

AECOM is participating in every major P3 project in Canada (e.g. Gordie Howe International Bridge, Regional Express Rail, major LRT projects, etc.) either as the Owner Engineer or as the Contractor’s Engineer. AECOM Canada is acting as a Centre of Excellence for the delivery of P3 projects in North America.

AECOM is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer with broad general knowledge of many technical engineering design disciplines to join the Gordie Howe International Bridge design team. The Gordie Howe International Bridge project is a once-in-a-generation design-build project consisting of the longest main span of any cable-stayed bridge in North America, the largest Canadian port of entry along the Canada-US border, one of the largest US ports of entry in North America, and direct connections to Ontario’s highway system and Michigan’s interstate system.

The primary location for this role is the Gordie Howe International Bridge project office in Windsor, Ontario.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Coordinating with design discipline leads, contractors, project owner, permitting authorities and other stakeholders to support the development of the detailed design and resolve issues that arise during construction

  • Reviewing design documents and participating in technical working group and review meetings to support design development.

  • Meeting with contractors, owners and other stakeholders to answer important questions regarding design

  • Preparing engineering sketches, design change notices and other engineering documents

  • Conducting on-site observations of work in progress to verify the procedures, materials and construction conform to specifications

  • Responding to requests for information, performing shop drawing reviews, resolving non-conformance and supporting the implementation of design changes during construction

  • Coordinating with project management staff, engineers, CAD staff, and inspectors located in the project office

  • Coordinating with engineering discipline leads and design teams located in offices worldwide

  • Supporting quality, schedule and change management processes

  • Work may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Electrical engineering or related discipline

  • 5+ years of related experience

  • Broad experience in large site planning and development projects

  • Broad experience in more than one engineering discipline (i.e. utilities, structural, electrical, etc.)

  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English)

  • Ability to work independently, strong interpersonal, problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to meet challenging project deadlines and handle multiple tasks

  • Ability to travel cross-border to site office in Michigan

  • Ability to obtain security clearance with Government of Canada or United States Federal Government

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of related experience

  • Experience in transportation and/or facilities design build projects

  • Experience with the design/construction of CBSA, CFIA and/or CBP facilities is an asset
