Position Title Technical Design Manager

AECOM is participating in every major P3 project in Canada (e.g. Gordie Howe International Bridge, Regional Express Rail, major LRT projects, etc.) either as the Owner Engineer or as the Contractor’s Engineer. AECOM Canada is acting as a Centre of Excellence for the delivery of P3 projects in North America. The Technical Design Manager will manage, supervise and coordinate engineering activities necessary to deliver complex, multi-disciplinary P3 projects through all phases of the Alternative Delivery procurement process. The appropriately qualified candidate will be responsible for the oversight, development, and implementation of technical criteria necessary to support design activities, will manage staff or consultants to ensure assigned projects are delivered on time, meet AECOM’s quality standards and delivered within budget.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Provides technical guidance and is primary contact for package managers and discipline leads within a project
Fostering creativity and innovation working with a multi-disciplinary team to meet project goals and deliver high quality technical excellence
Manages the workflow and prioritization of project activities and takes appropriate corrective action when necessary
Plans, directs, coordinates and reviews the work of assigned staff and consultants; assigns work activities; coordinates schedules, projects and programs; provides constructive feedback; reviews and evaluates work of team members, and clearly communicates effective suggestions and recommendations
Oversees engineering activities for planning, design, and construction work involving multiple consultants and contractors; ensures adherence to quality, budget and schedules; and ensures work meets industry, project specific or agency standards
Other responsibilities as assigned
Bachelor's degree in engineering
10+ years of experience in project delivery
Licensed Professional Engineer
Transportation and Transit technical design management experience
Must possess a valid driver's license
Experience with providing technical leadership on multi-year transportation Design-Build projects
Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams on major projects including transit/rail stations, maintenance facilities, infrastructure upgrades, building renovations or expansions or new transportation corridors
Working knowledge of project delivery mechanisms including operations, maintenance, planning, environmental, preliminary and final design, construction management, design-build, alliancing, scheduling, estimating, and quality assurance/quality control
Knowledge and experience with various disciplines and assets including, but not limited to: structures (above ground and tunnels), signaling, traction power, overhead wiring, communications, stations, passenger information systems, ticketing systems, security systems, train operations and control, noise and vibration mitigation, fire and life safety, rolling stock, electrical/mechanical equipment, and maintenance and storage facilities; experienced in public consultation programs and dealing in a public environment
Experienced in coordination with outside government agencies at all levels including local, provincial, regional, and national
Experience reviewing, interpreting, analyzing, and modifying complex engineering plans, drawings, specifications, contract documents, and engineering reports for conformance to professional standards or project specific requirements
Outstanding communication skills and the ability to clearly communicate highly complex technical issues, analysis and recommendations to staff and clients
Presentation development and public speaking skills.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, management, vendors, outside agencies, and contractor clients.
