AECOM Highway Design Engineer in Whitby, Ontario

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Design Engineer for employment in the Whitby, Ontario office.

Under the responsible charge of a Design Engineer, the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Highway and Municipal Roadway designer for MTO and municipal projects

  • Design for grading and drainage

  • Design of utility protection and relocation

  • Design of roads and parking lots

  • Construction staging design

  • Undertake concept, preliminary, and detailed designs

  • Coordination of third party stakeholders

  • Prepare drawings

  • Prepare quantity take-offs

  • Cost estimates

  • Evaluate technical alternatives, resolve technical issues and interface with other disciplines.

  • Work in a team environment, collaborating with Project Managers and organizing and directing junior / technical staff

  • Prepare technical memoranda outlining design options, impacts, and recommendations

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering

  • 4+ years of experience required

  • Experience in design development and production of construction drawings for MTO and/or municipal projects

  • Extensive experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D or MicroStation and Bentley InRoads

  • Technical writing skills

  • Ability to work independently

  • P.Eng. licensed in Ontario or eligible for licensing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with municipal and road authority standards

  • MTO experience is an asset

  • Surveying experience

  • Construction field experience

  • CAD Management and Leadership
