Job Summary

The UK&I Controller is a key role within the accounting and finance organisation and will work closely with the VP Controller EMIA, the UK&I DCS FD and the Management services finance team. As part of a dynamic team, you will supervise the controllership team and interact with business leaders, corporate executives, internal and external audit and outside professional advisors. The role will work across all of the AECOM divisions within the UK ensuring accurate and timely US and UK financial reporting, managing the legal entity structures and optimising these structures to support the key business objectives of compliance, growth and cash generation.

Job Duties:

  • Lead, coach and mentor the team to achieve best in class performance

  • Ensure robust monthly accounting close process and produce reporting documents for the US GAAP financial consolidation.

  • Ensure the internal control environment is strong and compliant with public company requirements and AECOM policy.

  • Partner with the relevant FD’s, Operational finance staff and the operational business leaders to provide accurate data, efficient finance processes and drive business performance.

  • Build strong relationships with external business partners, advisors, key business leaders and joint venture board members to support, optimise, explain and manage the financial structures in place to support the business. Work to ensure these legal entity structures meet bid criteria to support growth and pension covenant requirements

  • Determine US GAAP accounting treatment for transactions and entries in conjunction with EMIA and US HQ’s

  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc requests (M&A, Joint ventures, corporate restructurings and significant/unusual transactions)

  • Act as a Board member and Senior Accounting officer of entities within the structure (holding and funding companies) as required

  • Manage implementation of new accounting standards and corporate accounting policies in conjunction with EMIA and Global teams

  • Ensure financial statutory statements are accurate, within legal regulations and prepared as efficiently as possible.

  • Support and drive strategic initiatives to drive efficiencies from the Finance organisation that comply with regulations and, where possible, centralise and use existing shared service centres

  • Challenge the current reporting environment to explore opportunities for improvement or overhaul of financial management reporting and consolidations.

  • Work with Tax, Treasury and legal to ensure that all tax, treasury and finance matters are compliant and optimised for cash and profitability

  • Identify key business risks ensuring both correct accounting treatments and appropriate plans are in place to drive business performance improvement and/or risk mitigation

  • Provide finance support to the central business functions

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong analytical & problem solving skills essential

  • USGAAP and multi-national company experience

  • Extensive experience in accounting and reporting positions with substantial experience in accounting closes, consolidations, financial reporting, audits in a public company environment

  • Seasoned leadership skills and ability to manage, train and develop managers and staff in a respectful and effective manner

  • Must be pro-active and demonstrate ability to see things through to the end

  • Ability to manage details but also understand the “big picture”.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to be resourceful, hands on and work both independently and as part of high-performing team

  • Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple duties in a fast-paced environment.

  • Works independently as well as part of a team; willingness to work with multiple different colleagues on a variety of initiatives

  • Ability to manage & motivate a geographically spread team

  • Ability to think creatively and solve problems.

  • Flexibility to work outside normal working hours to meet deadlines.

  • Great problem solver and ability to summarize and present reporting results, including explanations and variance analysis. Highly collaborative and perceptive, and shows prudent analysis in problem solving

  • Reasonable amount of UK travel expected.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent

  • Chartered Accountancy Qualification (ACA, ACMA, ACCA, CPA or similar)

  • Engineering & Construction, project management, contract accounting experience preferred.
