Job Summary

JW Williams Inc., an AECOM company, is seeking Night Shift Combination Welders for IMMEDIATE Employment, to be based in our fabrication shop in Waller, TX.

Position Description or Typical Responsibilities:

The JW Williams Shop lays out, fits, and fabricates metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames, bridge parts, and pressure vessels, using knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements.

  • Attention to detail and ability to make clean lines and cuts when welding

  • Read and interpret blueprints; understand how the final product should look

  • Identify flaws in welds or structural imperfections in the metal

  • Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job

  • Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance

  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed

  • Knowledge of the properties and characteristics of metals used for cutting, welding and forming objects and of various welding fluxes and rods.

  • Knowledge of safety precautions related to occupational hazards, procedures and practices of the trade.

  • Skilled in identifying the proper power and hand tools in the safest possible manner and various equipment.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:


  • 3 years of welding / fitting experience on pressure vessels.

  • Able to clear an ASME & AWS weld test on pipe using 4 or more welding processes, (GTAW,GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, SAW).

  • Ability to clear a 6G process using GMAW/FCAW, SMAW.

  • Demonstrate welding ability and knowledge by performing utilizing four welding processes..

  • Must be able to read and use a tape measure and other fitting tools.

  • Able to work Night Shift from 6PM-6AM, Monday through Friday and occasionally on Saturday's, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical training preferred but not required.

  • Above average Mathematics Skills.

  • Professional Knowledge of welding symbols, fitting and blueprint reading skills.

  • Ability to work with complicated welding tools like ox-fuel,mag-drills, welding manipulators, general fabrication equipment, etc. Proficient with torches and plasmas.

  • Able to maintain a minimum of 95% acceptability in NDE test of welds.

  • Can be the first inspector of all welds performed.

  • Willing and able to mentor less experienced welders.

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

  • Must be able to clear a weld assessment screening.

  • Relocation and per diem support are not available for this position.

  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.

  • Due to the inherent dangers associated with construction activities, including performance of activities in or around confined spaces, operating equipment as well as Welder specific duties such as the ability to read, analyze and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations; candidates must possess the ability to read, comprehend, and communicate in English. The necessity of this requirement will ensure that all employees fully understand safety-related instructions/postings (i.e.; Project Rules & Regulations, Job Hazard Analyses, etc.), verbal communications and emergency announcements, and project-related communications with all employees. This requirement does not restrict casual/unrelated project conversation in languages other than English.
