Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and motivated Equipment Operator II for immediate employment in our Virginia Beach, VA office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs a combination of skilled equipment operations, preventive maintenance and manual labor tasks in roadway maintenance

  • Equipment operations include but are not limited to; backhoe, dump truck, loader, motor-grader, tractor/bush-hog and similar equipment

  • Role engages in the following; flag traffic, set up work zones and traffic control, cut brush, clean ditches/debris and patch potholes, perform emergency roadway operations as an essential employee during snow/severe weather events and other emergency events

  • Works outside of normal work hours during emergency conditions

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED

  • 2+ years of experience

  • Experience in roadway maintenance and construction

  • Experience in emergency operations to include snow removal, storms and accident clean-up

  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and minor equipment repairs

  • Capable of multi-tasking and working in a fast paced environment

  • Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures

  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor

  • Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

  • Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment

  • Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools

  • Skill in the operation and maintenance of light, medium, and heavy duty equipment used for highway maintenance and repair

  • Knowledge of Hampton Roads Interstate and local roadways

  • Experience in radio and phone communications

  • Scheduling flexibility

  • Full-range of physical mobility, visual perception, and general good health

  • Industrial experience

  • This position is designated as essential and, as such, all duties associated with this job are required during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and emergency operations

  • Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

  • Must possess a valid CDL Virginia driver’s license (Class B minimum), must be able to maintain

  • Must undergo a Virginia State Police Criminal Records History Check
