AECOM’s Central Region is actively seeking a highly motivated Staff Civil Engineer to join the Tucson, AZ Geo-Civil team. Our strong local presence in Southern Arizona opens the doors to significant and interesting projects in the mining sector. In this role there is opportunity to grow technical and non-technical skills alongside a team of seasoned professionals while being given ownership that will stretch your potential.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Contribute to the design of water and solution management features primarily for regional mine sites. Facilities include leach stockpiles, solution impoundments, tailing facilities, and water dams. Development through intermittent Regional projects (workshare, inter-office) is available and encouraged.
Generate conceptual layouts/designs and perform calculations/analyses for channels, culverts, headwalls, detention ponds, operating ponds, spillways, rock drains, check dams, and haulage/access/circulation roads. Designs incorporate erosion control features, geosynthetics, and exposed or sub-surface piping and pump systems.
Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, quantity and cost estimates, and alternative assessments.
Prepare drafts of portions of technical proposals, reports, regulatory agency permits, as well as less complex external and internal documents.
Coordinate and integrate civil design with results from geotechnical, structural, mechanical, and electrical designs.
Develop tangible engineering design skills through periodic field experience. This may include construction support (verification of design implementation, adherence to quality, contractor/owner engagement), site inspections, and geotechnical investigations. Also provide construction support from the office by adapting designs to field conditions.
Recognize potential opportunities for additional work within an existing project or for an existing client.
Create engineering drawings and visual aids using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Participate in client meetings.
Demonstrate ability to build trusting working relationships withclients and colleagues.
Execute assignments with a critical eye while applying standardtechniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineeringtasks.
- BA/BS + None or AA/AS (US) + 2 YORE or Diploma/Certificate (Canada) + 2 YORE or HS/GED + 4 YORE
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
University coursework emphasis in water resources or geotechnical engineering.
Willingness to travel remotely (within AZ) on occasion for construction observation and client meetings (Estimated 20% or less of total time).
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or ability to obtain within 6 months.
Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
