AECOM’s Central Region is actively seeking a highly motivated Staff Civil Engineer to join the Tucson, AZ Geo-Civil team. Our strong local presence in Southern Arizona opens the doors to significant and interesting projects in the mining sector. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Lead the design of water and solution management features primarily for Arizona-based mine sites. Facilities include leach stockpiles, solution impoundments, tailing facilities, and water dams. Development through intermittent Regional projects (workshare, inter-office) is available and encouraged.
Conceptualize and execute layouts/designs and calculations/analyses for channels, culverts, headwalls, detention ponds, operating ponds, spillways, rock drains, check dams, and haulage/access/circulation roads. Designs incorporate erosion control features, geosynthetics, and exposed or sub-surface piping and pump systems.
Partner with junior engineers in completing hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, quantity and cost estimates, and alternative assessments.
Team with senior staff to deliver technical proposals, reports, regulatory agency permits.
Coordinate and integrate civil design with results from geotechnical, structural, mechanical, and electrical designs.
Manage and participate in delivery of technical memos, figures, and drawings.
Participate actively in client meetings.
Provide periodic construction support (verification of design implementation, adherence to quality, contractor/owner engagement), site inspections, and geotechnical investigations. Also provide construction support from the office by adapting designs to field conditions.
Recognize potential opportunities for additional work within existing projects or for existing clients.
Demonstrate ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues.
BS in Engineering.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
University coursework emphasis in water resources or geotechnical engineering.
Willingness to travel remotely (within AZ) on occasion for construction observation and client meetings (Estimated 20% or less of total time).
U.S. Citizenship required.
Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or ability to obtain within 6 months.
Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
