Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a 1 st shift industrial maintenance HVAC Technician 4 for our maintenance team in a new automotive manufacturing facility in Summerville, SC!

  • Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm; hours may vary based on business demand.

The HVAC/R Technician 4 is responsible for providing an advanced level of expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing preventive maintenance on the industrial HVAC equipment in an industrial environment.

Must have the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot compressors, pumps, bearings, blowers, fans, gearboxes, air handlers and other equipment as required. May perform all aspects of preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance on industrial systems including, but not limited to: rooftop DX, ice machines, cafeteria equipment, etc . Provides instruction, mentors and trains less skilled technicians as needed.

Must have practical experience troubleshooting and maintaining air handlers and HVAC units and be qualified to safely handle and track the usage of refrigerant (Ozone Depletion Substances –ODS). Strong mechanical/electrical skills are required. Knowledge of building automation system software supporting HVAC, water, steam, and power distribution (such as Siemens and Andover ) is preferred.

The HVAC/R Technician 4 must have the ability to identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance to a wide variety of facility related equipment.

  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots ventilation equipment, pumps, fans, chillers, rooftop AHU’s, split systems, compressors, refrigeration , etc. in an industrial environment.

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses electrical circuits ranging from 24V AC/DC and up to 480 V, including lighting and load centers.

  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of large building HVAC systems and their mechanical/electrical controls.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs heat exchange equipment.

  • Utilize meggers, voltmeters, multi-meters, etc.

  • Responds to and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.

  • Recommends activities to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems

  • Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations.

  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.

  • Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.

  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.

  • Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment, yet demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.

Minimum Requirements

  1. High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

  2. Five years of experience as an HVAC/R maintenance technician in an industrial environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

  3. EPA Universal certification.

Additional Information:

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, high-visibility reflective vests, and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Associate’s degree in Industrial HVAC, Industrial Electrical, Mechanical Maintenance, or related program.

  2. Experience working with electrical voltage up to 480V 3 phase.

  3. Experience with DX Split Systems and package units.

  4. Experience with cafe style refrigeration systems.

  5. Experience repairing and installing controls as related to air handling systems.

  6. Experience with Building Automation Systems, Siemens and Andover a plus.

  7. Experience with steam up to 50 psi and associated components.

  8. Experience with reading prints and schematics.

  9. Experience with minor plumbing repairs.

Other Attributes:

  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
