Job Summary

AECOM are looking for an experienced Principal Traffic Signal Engineer to join our traffic signal team based in St Albans office.

St Albans is conveniently located just 20 minutes from London St Pancras and a short hop off of the M1, M25 and A1(M). Our large office is situated just a few minutes’ walk from the Station and the historic city centre which boasts a fantastic range of eating and drinking establishments alongside many small independent shops and high street stores.

The team are currently working on several interesting projects for some of the biggest Highway Authority Clients in the UK such as Transport for London (TFL), Highways England (HE) and Midlands Highway Alliance (MHA.)

Current major projects include:

  • Traffic Signal Modernisation Program (TFL)

  • Harwell Campus (MHA)

  • A40 Science Transit (MHA)

  • Area 8 OD EAST Programme (HE)

The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the account-abilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:

  • Lead a team carrying out traffic signal engineering studies from feasibility through to detailed design.

  • Production of transportation reports, making use of relevant traffic engineering software (for example LINSIG, TRANSYT and VISSIM micro-simulation)

  • Preparation of design drawings and work specifications.

  • Preparation of TR2500 / MCH1827b controller specifications.

  • Preparation of UTC / SCCOT plans and / or MOVA data sets.

  • Carryout FAT & SAT testing to a sufficient standard.

  • Carryout UTC / SCOOT & MOVA validation.

  • Managing junior team members, taking a proactive role in developing team members to their full potential.

  • Project Management of individual schemes inc monitoring financial status and progress of projects to ensure delivery on time, to budget and to Client’s satisfaction;

  • Establishing strong working relationships with other internal teams within AECOM’s transportation division.

  • Take an active role in winning work and supporting business development activities including the development of Client relationships

  • Give support to the Traffic Signal Team Leader

Minimum Requirements

  • Have sufficient and relevant experience of traffic engineering related projects to UK standards, preferably with Transport for London and / or Highways England (Highways Agency)

  • Good working knowledge of traffic signal equipment and software, preferably UTC / SCOOT and MOVA applications.

  • Experience of the use of traffic modelling software such as LINSIG and / or TRANSYT

  • Ability to use software such as Keysignals, CAD, Word and Excel

  • Able to demonstrate experience or understanding of Health and Safety including CDM responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree level, HNC/HND or appropriate qualification.

  • Sector 8 portfolio (desirable but not essential)

  • A current full driving license is desirable (but not essential) for the role as site visits will be required.
