Job Summary

This is a permanent full-time Apprentice/Trainee role ideally suited to school leavers.

Building services engineers work closely with the design team to ensure the projects we create together sustainably perform to the brief and budget. Increasingly we work with our other internal business lines such as Architecture, Environment, Transportation, and our own Project Managers to provide a one stop solution to our clients. Our Building Services Disciplines Include:

Mechanical Engineering - The quality of a building’s internal environment plays a significant role in determining its fitness for the purpose for which it was designed. The mechanical engineer by the application of modern control technology allied to energy efficient heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, allows occupants to vary conditions within the building although this all starts with working with the architect to ensure the buildings form is sufficiently thermally efficient to enable energy targets to be met or exceeded.

Electrical Engineering - We deliver expert thinking to drive efficient solutions for High and low voltage power supplies, utilities, standby generation, UPS, resilient systems, small power, fire alarms, security, lighting and power. We pay attention to critical systems and resilience levels.

Public Health Engineering - Energy efficient solutions are provided for hot and cold water systems, sprinklers, drainage systems, water treatment, dry risers and irrigation.

We currently have opportunities for school leavers, qualified to either GCSE level or A-level standard (or equivalent) to join our accomplished team within the Building Engineering sector, within our St. Albans office

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Take part in all the production aspects of the projects in the office.

  2. Produce draft design drawings for projects.

  3. Produce CAD drawings.

  4. Carry out design calculations for checking and approval.

  5. Compile tender packages including drawings and specifications.

  6. Ensure Safety Health and Environment procedures are implemented.

Minimum Requirements

No experience is necessary but the position is ideally suited to school leavers at either GCSE or A-Level standard (or equivalent) who can demonstrate:

  • Minimum of 3 GCSE’s at grade ‘C’ or above, including Mathematics & English, and either; Completed first year of BTEC National Diploma or AS or 'A' levels (minimum 80 UCAS points) - preferably STEM subjects

  • Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career in Building Engineering

  • Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.

  • Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic

  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail

  • Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects

  • English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports

Our Structured Training Excellence Programme (STEP) is designed to recruit school-leavers who show commitment, aptitude and enthusiasm, into science, engineering and technology careers with us. You will combine work-based on-the-job training and learning with further studies and must be willing to progress your career. After an initial probationary period you must be willing to undertake a day release course at an appropriate part-time course to support your career development in this field.

Preferred Qualifications

Qualifications in STEM subjects preferred.
