Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Deputy Project Manager for immediate employment as part of AECOM’s Transportation Operations Center (TOC) practice in Michigan. The position will report and work with our local TOC leadership team and primarily work at one client facility and contract at a time generally located in the southeast Michigan area. The candidate will concentrate efforts towards service areas of TOC operations, maintenance and application of traffic engineering concepts to those services and systems utilization as needed. The candidate will need to be professional, self-motivated, resourceful and able to successfully execute a wide-range of tasks in a fast-paced environment with ever changing priorities. The appropriately qualified candidate will need to demonstrate an understanding of leadership capabilities within a real-time operations environment. (A flexible schedule is needed for events and project coordination)

The general responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • As directed, communicates with client managers, operations/project managers and department leads to provide status updates, ascertain needs within the control room operation and provide solutions to issues.

  • Supports the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

  • Assist in the research and development of presentations, technical memos and studies

  • Attend internal and external meetings to represent the Transportation Operations Center

  • Actively reviews maintenance and operational activities for accuracy and appropriateness, providing guidance and feedback to staff as needed

  • Mentors current staff and new hires on procedures and policies

  • Assume operations leadership role when operations manager is offsite

  • Contribute to accurate and timely after-action reports for high-impact incidents and events

  • Work on special assignments, tasks, reports and presentations

  • Perform other duties as needed by the client and operations manager

Minimum Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience

  • Michigan professional engineering licensure, or ability to obtain within 6-months

  • Driver’s License in good standing

  • Computer proficiency: Windows environment and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Access)

  • Ability to communicate clearly, organize correspondence, convey urgency and document decisions made to project management and the client

  • Ability to efficiently and effectively speak, read, and write on technical topics in the English language

  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently produce technical reports, documents, client communication, and technical memoranda

  • Project coordination experience

  • Ability to work calmly and accurately under pressure

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, traffic engineering, or appropriate discipline

  • Transportation Operations Center experience

  • Experience with data manipulation, management and processing

  • Project management experience

  • Experience with intelligent transportation system devices and communications

  • Experience with asset management
