Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Traffic Engineer for employment in our Southfield, MI office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate their technical understanding and past experience provide traffic engineering services for local agencies, private developers and other municipalities. Past experience should include the planning, management and execution of tasks to complete projects such as traffic impact studies, roadway safety studies, capacity analyses, signing/markings and other relevant services in compliance with state and local standards.

  • General responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving as a lead traffic engineer for projects and larger tasks

  • Interacting and proactively communicating with client project managers, staff, private developers and others

  • Conducting technical reviews of site plans and studies for compliance with local ordinance/standards

  • Scoping and completion of site specific traffic impact studies

  • Presenting technical findings to local agency clients, city commissions, citizens and others

  • Conducting site inspections of new developments relative to traffic related infrastructure

  • Coordinating and collecting traffic data in the field, such as traffic counts, operational observations, measurements, etc.

  • Remaining educated of client preferences, ordinances and standards along with how they are applied to site development

  • Managing a variety of tasks and schedules

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Travel within Michigan to client/project sites

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, traffic engineering, or appropriate discipline

  • 5+ years' experience

  • Michigan professional engineering licensure, or ability to obtain within 6-months

  • Michigan Driver’s License in good standing

  • Experience providing local agency or private site development traffic engineering services

  • Detailed knowledge of: Michigan Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Michigan Compiled Laws relative to traffic engineering topics, and ITE Trip Generation and Traffic Engineering Study manuals

  • Full-range of physical mobility, visual acuity, and general good health to permit working in both a field and office environment

  • Computer proficiency: Windows environment, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Access); Microstation, AutoCAD, Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, and ability to maintain in adherence with an organized project file management structure

  • Ability to communicate clearly, organize correspondence, convey urgency and document decisions made to project management

  • Ability to efficiently and effectively speak, read and write on technical topics in the English language

  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently produce technical reports, documents, client communication and technical memoranda

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management experience

  • PTOE certification

  • 6+ years of directly related experience
