Job Summary

AECOM is seeking to hire a Civil Engineer based in our Seattle, WA office as part of our Transportation Business Line to serve as a member of the Civil design team on a variety of highway and transit design projects, including a focus on Design-Build projects. The successful candidate will be able to analyze issues and determine priorities in an environment of demanding and often conflicting deadlines. They will be customer services driven, and will have excellent written and verbal communications skills. They will need to be versatile and adaptable to accommodate changing working times and priorities.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and create site layout plans in alignment with client requirements and standards

  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop concept plans, grading plans, and site designs

  • Work closely with contractor clients to coordinate design

  • Perform and manage tasks including site/civil design, roadways and trails, storm drainage, erosion and sedimentation control, and utility design and coordination

  • Flexibility in working schedule to meet demanding deliverable timelines

  • Ensure client satisfaction including being QA/QC driven

  • Coordination with site contractors for field engineering services, materials testing, reviews, inspections, surveying and assistance in technical or logistical site matters

  • Proficient at reading and interpreting design drawings, specifications and shop drawings

  • Document weekly reports; attend site meetings, review construction drawings and specifications for roadways projects, and prepare tender packages

  • Responsible to monitor and report on financial expenditure for budget control purposes, and to anticipate project cost changes

  • Liaison with design team, clients, contractors, third parties and utility companies as necessary

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering

  • 2+ years experience

  • Commitment to excellence and high quality of work

  • WA PE or eligible within 6 months

  • Excellent report writing and client communication skills

  • Experience with client interaction, ensuring schedule delivery

  • Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Highly self-motivated with a strong work ethic to put in hours as required and be flexible to get things done with minimal supervision providing proactive reporting on progress and status

  • Understanding and commitment to safety and health program management

  • Strong organizational skills, experience of working in the consulting industry, and effective communication skills

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience delivering Design-Build projects

  • Experience delivering municipal and transit projects

  • Experience delivering Sound Transit design projects

  • Experience working with Transit Agencies, Municipalities, and State DOT’s

  • Experience in the preparation and management of CPM Schedules and Earned Value Reporting

  • Experience using MicroStation/InRoads
