Position Title Transportation Planner - Modeling, Research and Analysis

AECOM is seeking a mid- to senior-level Transportation Planner to work with a team of highly-motivated planners, engineers, as well as professionals in GIS and data analytics, within the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s Transportation Planning group. S/he will play an important role in regional planning studies, multimodal corridor studies, transportation policy analyses, and environmental impact analyses, among others. S/he will be applying a countywide trip-based travel demand model to perform travel forecast, analyze travel model results, and assess the impacts of infrastructure investments and transportation and land-use policies. The transportation planner will also be actively engaged in the development and testing of the next generation of the countywide model, which is an Activity-Based Model designed to be more sensitive to a broader range of planning strategies and policies.
Bachelor’s degree in transportation planning/engineering, urban planning, engineering, environmental science/management, operations research, computer science, economics (with an emphasis on econometrics), or a related field
5-8 years of professional experience in the field of transportation planning, traffic engineering, or related experience with an emphasis on modeling and simulation
Solid understanding of the theories, principles, and practices of travel demand forecasting
Experience in developing travel forecasts and calibrating/validating travel demand models in one or more transportation modeling package (e.g., Cube, EMME, TransCAD, or VISUM)
Programming skills in Java, Python, or other computing languages
Familiarity with statistical analysis methods and procedures for transportation analysis
Master's degree in the disciplines described above
Experience in the application and development of Activity-Based models
Experience in the application of land-use modeling (e.g., Cube Land, UrbanSim, PECAS)
Experience in using statistical analysis/database software (e.g., SQL, R, PostsgreSQL, SAS)
Understanding of survey methodologies and experience in analyzing travel survey data
Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications, such as ESRI suite and QGIS
