AECOM Senior Geotechnical Project Manager in San Jose, California

Job Summary


  • Serves as geotechnical engineering task lead on mid- to large size projects.

  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

  • Approves and signs off on work.

  • Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts.

  • Presents complex technical solutions to clients.

  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.

  • Participates in development of technical proposals.

  • Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/ BS plus 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 20+ years of related experience with geotechnical design and construction.

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience managing geotechnical projects greater than $25,000 in California.

  • MS degree in Geotechnical Engineering focus from an accredited US School.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer and Geotechnical Engineer in California.

  • Thorough understanding of the concepts of soil mechanics and geotechnical laboratory testing.

  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams within AECOM.

  • Experience and willingness to mentor junior staff.

  • Experience in scoping and preparing cost and qualification based geotechnical engineering proposals for private and government client.

  • Experience with underground construction, shallow and deep foundations, slope stability, seepage and flood control design.

  • Experience with design of flexible and rigid pavements.

  • Experience with gINT, Geostudio, Ensoft and other related design software.

  • Thorough understanding of the concepts of soil mechanics and geotechnical laboratory testing.

  • Experience managing geotechnical investigations on Caltrans and USACE projects, including the preparation of geotechnical reports for design and support during construction.

  • Willingness to represent AECOM at professional organizations and contribute to technical publications.

  • Interest in business development.
