AECOM Senior EHS Construction Safety Leader - San Francisco, CA in San Francisco, California

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking experienced, creative, and highly talented Senior EHS Construction Safety Leader in San Fransisco, CA.

This position will lead and provide oversight for construction project health and safety, and safety in design program for current clients including implementation of construction safety guidelines for new client locations. Provide high quality site safety support for team members, contractors and subcontractors on-site. Lead safety risk assessments at the task and project levels. Assist team members, contractors and subcontractors to comply with safety requirements. Work with contractors and subcontractors to integrate client construction safety programs and establish self-sufficient teams at each global location.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate directly with project owner and AECOM project team lead to provide clear understanding of health and safety program requirements and implementation

  • Develop and/or lead design safety process review for new construction and/or renovation.

  • Develop and/or lead electrical safety programs including integration of NFPA 70E arc flash and shock hazard assessments, worker qualification and training programs.

  • Develop or assist with development of accident or injury investigation program for all incidents, accidents, near misses that happen on the project and upload to reporting system

  • Review all safety documentation/reports for accuracy and completeness

  • Provide assistance developing and reviewing applicable required safety training for workers and supervisors

  • Manage site specific safety training documents and ensure training is complete

  • Perform mandatory inspections –PPE, Fall Protection, LOTO audits, etc.

  • Primary Shift is day shift but must be able to work afternoon / evening shift occasionally

  • Supervise, train and mentor junior level staff and contractors/subcontractors on the implementation of the clients’ construction health and safety expectations

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree + 8 year or more of relevant work experience or AA/AS Degree + 10 years or more of relevant work experience or HS/GED + 12 years or more of relevant work experience

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security pre-employment background check

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in indoor and outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable conditions including heat, cold, noise, and working in the presence of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment; position requires frequent standing/walking, vehicle operation, stair climbing and keyboard/mouse operations; often performing repetitive bending & stooping; occasionally using portable ladders, and lifting less than 25 pounds or less; rarely working with arms above shoulder level, power gripping/squeezing (and tools, levers, etc.), working at heights, performing repetitive or fine hand movements, and lifting 25 to 50 pounds. Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Educational focus in in safety, health or industrial hygiene, environmental engineering or demonstrated equivalent (15+ years’ experience site construction health and safety).

  • STS (Construction) required, Certified Safety Professional (CSP) highly preferred.

  • OSHA 500 - Construction Safety Instructor preferred.

  • 5+ years’ experience working in the capacity of construction health and safety manager or supervisor for ground-up construction projects.

  • Experience leading or having key project roles in using ANSI/ASSE Z590.3 (2011, 2016) - Prevention through Design Guidelines for Addressing Occupational Hazards and Risks in Design and Redesign Processes matier.

  • Experience developing, mitigating, and communicating task and project risk assessments.

  • Experience serving as the owner’s representative on project sites.

  • Expert knowledge and demonstrated experience in OSHA 1910 and OSHA 1926.

  • Must have demonstrated proficiency and working knowledge of grade / survey equipment, construction / heavy equipment operation, lifting and rigging, construction drawings, and other typical construction equipment and technologies.

  • Experience with construction specific hazards (i.e., control of hazardous energy, confined space, scaffolding, trenching, excavation, working at heights, falling object prevention, etc.)

  • Must be able to effectively supervise, mentor, and motivate junior employees, general contractors and additional safety staff.

  • Familiar with NFPA 70E arc and shock hazard protective measures and experience implementing arc and shock hazard analysis
