AECOM is seeking a visionary and dynamic leader for our West Region Justice Practice, based in our Los Angeles or San Francisco office. We’re looking for a leader of design excellence, one whose design philosophy and practice is driven by a passion for the market sector, for clients, for mentoring staff and for building business
While the majority of AECOM’s West Region Justice work is in California, the region includes Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, and Hawaii. The Justice Practice includes Architecture, Engineering, Interiors, Planning & Economics, and Consulting. The candidate’s primary responsibility is to lead and grow an integrated multi-disciplinary Justice Practice with a focus on Innovation, Design Excellence and Thought Leadership while positioning AECOM in the delivery of local, regional and Federal Justice Projects.
We are seeking an individual who will partner with the National Market Sector Leader and is an industry-recognized leader in the Justice Architectural/Engineering Design & Planning Community in the West Region, has strong client relationships, and an established client and industry network. The ideal candidate understands and has proven track record in driving business fundamentals that include client leadership, business development, financial oversight, design quality, project delivery, and has the ability to convey innovative design thinking and solutions.
Together with the National MSL, responsible for developing and executing the Justice strategic growth plan for their region, including developing and executing client outreach goals. Builds identity of the Justice market through attending, speaking, and writing for regional and national client organizations such as ACA, AJA, NACM, AAJ, IACP, and sheriff’s associations.

Advocates design excellence and quality – leads the regional Justice strategy in assuring that we are building client relationships, strategically pre-positioning, winning, and delivering the most important Justice work in the region.
Together with MSL and regional business line management, builds high performance Justice design teams – soliciting and managing client feedback to align operations and allocate resources according to strategic priorities, recognizes and unleashes the potential of others by providing the needed environment, resources, coaching, experiences and other support, champions an innovative and collaborative culture.
Champions change – makes the AECOM Justice vision understandable, creates buy-in to the vision by linking day-to-day work to the attainment of the vision, engages and mobilizes others to drive change, reduces organizational ambiguity.
Illustrates a keen understanding of market trends and client expectations in Justice sector, including those related to courts, public safety and detention/corrections facilities.
Registered Architect, Engineer, Interior Designer or Planner with 20+ years of experience with state agencies including the California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation, the Judicial Council of California, local agencies including the capital program management, sheriff’s and probation organizations, and State authorities having jurisdiction such as the Board of State and Community Corrections and State Fire Marshal.
Professional design degree in Architecture (or applicable field) required
Deep knowledge of the regional Justice marketplace with National reach, key clients, and industry trends is paramount.
Experience and skill in strategic business development, client relationships and driving sales and revenue
Ability to support and lead Justice business development activities through early client interaction, “scope of work” development, interviews, and on-going client maintenance interface
Acted as principal-in-charge of a large/multi-disciplined Justice project /consultant team
Together with regional Director of Operations, Principal-In-Charge and Project Directors, established project scopes, work plans and work schedules.
Successfully delivered Justice projects within the clients’ budget / schedule requirements
Successfully delivered project scope and fee, delivering targeted profit to the firm interfaced with project managers on schedules, project review meetings, issues management and client expectations
An ability to travel and/or work remotely with teams
A strong desire to train, mentor and develop staff to grow their careers and the business
Direct architecture and engineering design and planning leadership experience in the Justice sector
10 years leading teams for large institutional projects (courts, corrections, public safety facilities)
10+ years in the geographic marketplace
Preferred location in San Francisco or Los Angeles
