AECOM Federal Business Development Lead in San Francisco, California

AECOM is seeking a dynamic Business Developer for our West Region Federal Practice, based in our Los Angeles, Orange County or San Francisco office. We’re looking for a leader of design excellence, one whose design philosophy and practice is driven by a passion for the Federal market sector, for clients, for mentoring staff and for building business.
While the majority of AECOM’s West Region Federal work is in California and Washington, the region includes Oregon, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, and Hawaii. The Federal Practice includes Architecture, Engineering, Interiors, Planning & Economics, and Consulting. The candidate’s primary responsibility is to position AECOM to win and deliver Projects for Defense and Civilian Agencies.
We are seeking an individual who will partner with the Regional Market Sector Leader, has strong client relationships, and an established client and industry network. The ideal candidate understands and has proven track record in driving business fundamentals that include client leadership, business development, financial oversight, design quality, project delivery, and has the ability to convey innovative design thinking and solutions.
Strategically builds client relationships, pre-positions, wins, and delivers important Federal work in the West region
Together with the Regional Market Sector Leader, helps develop and execute the Federal strategic growth plan for the West, including developing and executing client outreach goals
Builds identity of the Federal market through attending, speaking, and writing for regional and national client organizations such as the Society of American Military Engineers (S.A.M.E.)
Has delivered and led the pursuit of design build and non-design build projects and opportunities
Has experience as a capture manager, developing capture strategies, determining win strategies to include team differentiators, team composition, past performance and qualifications to win opportunities
Has experience in the development of fee proposals
Experience managing a portfolio of federal work to include both projects and programs
Experience developing, maintaining and reporting on a yearly business plan
Experience with federal contracts and understanding of potential conflicts of interest
Together with Regional Market Sector Leader builds high performance Federal design teams – soliciting and managing client feedback to align operations and allocate resources according to strategic priorities, recognizes and unleashes the potential of others by providing the needed environment, resources, coaching, experiences and other support, champions an innovative and collaborative culture
Illustrates a keen understanding of market trends and client expectations in Federal sector, including Defense and Civilian Agencies
Bachelor’s degree plus twelve (12) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
Deep knowledge of the regional Federal marketplace with National reach, key clients, and industry trends is paramount
Experience and skill in strategic business development, client relationships and driving sales and revenue
Ability to support and lead Federal business development activities through early client interaction, “scope of work” development, interviews, and on-going client maintenance interface
Acted as principal-in-charge of a large/multi-disciplined Federal project /consultant team
Together with regional Director of Operations, Principal-In-Charge and Project Directors, established project scopes, work plans and work schedules.
Successfully delivered Federal projects within the clients’ budget / schedule requirements
Successfully delivered project scope and fee, delivering targeted profit to the firm interfaced with project managers on schedules, project review meetings, issues management and client expectations
Able to travel and/or work remotely with teams
A strong desire to train, mentor and develop staff to grow their careers and the business
Professional degree in Architecture or Engineering
Registered Architect or Professional Engineer with 10+ years of experience with Federal Agencies
15+ years in the delivery of design and construction projects and programs
Direct architecture and engineering design and planning leadership experience in the Federal sector
10 years leading teams for large Federal Projects
10+ years in the geographic marketplace
Preferred location in Los Angeles, Orange County or San Francisco
