AECOM Senior Technical Editor in Sacramento, California

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented technical editor for immediate employment in Sacramento, California. This person will be responsible for editing (and some formatting) to technical documents from a variety of disciplines, including environmental impact reports, feasibility studies, O&M reports, proposals, the occasional internal document, and other documents as needed. This position involves primarily editing for grammar, correctness, and perhaps organization; the formatting of text is more incidental than typical for the editor.

  • Enjoy making a product read better, even if your team members don’t place the same importance on quality.

  • Are unfazed by the need to learn unfamiliar jargon.

  • Can transition from technical reports to proposals and back with ease.

  • Are always willing to try new things, whether it’s new software or working with new subject matter experts.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree plus four (4) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalent of experience and/or education

  • Have an excellent understanding of English grammar and usage

  • Familiar with Chicago and/or AP style manuals.

  • Good MS Word and PowerPoint skills; comfortable with Excel. You can work with Styles, even if you are not an expert at formatting.

  • Flexibility to work evenings and/or weekends occasionally as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree in English, Communication, Journalism, or a related field

  • Past supervisory experience a plus.

  • Eight or more years of experience preferred.

  • Familiar with Adobe Acrobat (especially accessibility functionality) and the basic functions of InDesign (especially the text editing features).

  • Knowledge of CEQA and NEPA helpful.
