Job Summary

AECOM’s Sacramento office is seeking a Senior Fisheries Biologist with experience managing and implementing multidisciplinary natural resource projects. Specific areas of expertise are required including knowledge of California fisheries, federal and state endangered species act compliance, and documentation required to satisfy the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

Primary responsibilities of this position would include:

  • Interpretation of Federal, State, and local environmental regulations

  • Evaluate potential impacts Federal, State, and local environmental regulations; must demonstrate a strong working knowledge of, and experience with, NEPA, CEQA, ESA, CESA, and CWA

  • Design, implement and manage fisheries and wildlife investigations

  • Effectively communicate technical data and analyses in reports and presentations

  • Supervise and mentor staff biologists

  • Effective management of project technical and financial performance to meet client expectations

  • Identify leads and develop client relationships for future work opportunities

  • Lead business development activities to capture new work

  • Perform other related duties assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 10+ years' experience

  • Must have experience developing scope, budget, and schedules for large, complex projects

  • Must have experience with multi-agency collaboration efforts

  • Must have experience developing and implementing FERC settlement agreements

  • Must be able to identify California fishes and wildlife to species level, specifically Federally and State-listed species (e.g., Delta Smelt, Longfin Smelt, Chinook Salmon, Steelhead)

  • Must have knowledge of fish and wildlife ecology and life history strategies

  • Knowledge and experience with fish sampling methods (e.g., beach seining, electrofishing)

  • Must demonstrate the ability to collect representative field samples and data using scientific methods and techniques

  • Must be able to perform qualitative and quantitative data analysis

  • Working knowledge of CalSim II and PTM-DSM2 models

  • Experience with State Water Project and Central Valley Project operations and facilities with a focus on the California Delta is required

  • Proven experience working with state and federal regulatory agencies and water resources project stakeholders

  • Demonstrated business development and marketing skills

  • Flexibility to meet deadlines when needed and to occasionally travel within California for meetings and site visits

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License

  • May be occasionally required to work in heat, cold, and wet conditions and navigate in uneven outdoor terrain

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years' experience preferred

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and during presentations

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships

  • Experience in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, or other computer programs to enter, summarize, and analyze data

  • Basic knowledge of GIS software and GPS equipment
