Job Summary

AECOM has an immediate need for a Structural Engineer to work in Roanoke, VA supporting our Building Engineering group. We seek an experienced mid-senior level engineer to work with senior colleagues and help mentor junior engineers. Roanoke is rich in cultural, entertainment and outdoor activities and has a strong sense of community, which is nestled in the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the preparation of deliverables and products such as presentation materials, calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and cost estimates related to structural systems for commercial and governmental facilities

  • Deliver complete, accurate and coordinated project design assignments within time and budget parameters while satisfying client contractual obligations

  • Perform field investigation for incorporation of existing conditions into construction documents

  • Work independently and make technical decisions based on building code interpretation as well as company, client and industry standard practices

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program

  • Professional Engineer recognized by a state licensing board

  • 10+ years of experience with an engineering firm designing structural systems for commercial and institutional facilities

  • Strong written communication, presentation, and client interface skills

  • AutoCAD experience

  • Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing

  • Ability to work with, interpret, and apply national and local building codes

  • Ability to take responsibility for given tasks with limited supervision while proactively developing standard practices and new techniques

  • U.S. Citizenship required

  • Eligible to obtain Top Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a structural emphasis

  • Experience with REVIT and/or Bentley Microstation BIM software

  • Experience with Antiterrorism/Force Protection and Blast Resistant structural design
