Job Summary

The PMO Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Construction Manager for immediate employment in the Newark, DE office who will be assigned to the local office in Richmond, Virginia. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in construction supervision and operation, maintenance, and monitoring (OM&M) projects. The new position can look forward to projects including construction oversight, subcontractor management, safety health and environmental (SHE) program compliance, water treatment plant mechanical and process troubleshooting.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversees construction activities by leading and directing subcontractors for compliance with SHE programs and project progress related requirements

  • Coordinates with technical team to collaborate on construction and/or OM&M type activities

  • Manages multiple shifts of an active groundwater treatment system

  • Reviews and implements technical specifications and project drawings in accordance with contract requirements

  • Favorable personality to build relationships as he/she deals with the client and plant personnel

  • Troubleshoots mechanical/electrical issues at the groundwater treatment facility to maintain routine OM&M activities and escalate mechanical/electrical issues to specialty contractors if/when needed

  • Performs granular activated carbon change-outs for the treatment system

  • Controls treatment plant machines and equipment to treat water for industrial use: Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant

  • Monitors / maintains agitators to mix chemicals and allows impurities to settle to bottom of tank

  • Monitors the pumping of treated water through the effluent / outfall

  • Monitors panelboard and adjusts controls to regulate flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation, and distribution of water

  • Cleans tanks and filter beds as required

  • Repairs and lubricates machines and equipment, using hand tools and power tools

  • Tests water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities, using colorimeter, turbidimeter, and conductivity meter

  • Operates centrifuge as required to process solids

  • Records miscellaneous data as required

  • Participates in finalizing / developing procedures for the operation of the treatment facility

  • Adheres to the site’s General Site Conditions.

  • Adheres to the plant’s O&M, Waste Management and Health and Safety Plan

  • Function as a deputy Project Manager. This includes cost tracking, scheduling support of resources, scheduling / arranging of deliveries, preparation of daily and monthly reports

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma

  • 8+ years working in water treatment projects

  • Current 40 hour Hazwoper

  • Confined Space Trained

  • Basic computer skills: Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer

  • Excellent Communication Skills

  • Flexibility with work hours, this includes working weekends and night

  • Flexibility for 15% travel to support other projects as needed

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

  • Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

  • 10+ years of working in water treatment projects

  • 15+ years of construction and construction management experience
