This Geologist position is responsible for providing oversight for the direct push field program with respect to vadose zone characterization, interim and final corrective actions for soils, and tank farm closure activities. It is preferable that the Geologist have field experience at the Hanford site and be familiar with geologic drilling and interpretation of geologic information. The position is also responsible for developing schedules and estimates to support field activities along with tracking actual cost. Candidates should have a background in developing field sampling plans and preparing regulatory documents summarizing field efforts. Candidates should have experience directing subcontractors and working with regulators and DOE in order to coordinate and provide updates on field efforts, respectively. The Geologist should be able to work in a team environment, apply an extensive and diversified knowledge of scientific principles and practices in assignments and related work and make decisions independently based on scientific information.
Bachelor's degree in Geology or related scientific discipline or equivalent combination of education and/or experience and at least 10 years of experience in an engineering or scientific discipline.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills needed to facilitate project milestones. Must be able to clearly and concisely communicate to peers and management. Must take prompt action to accomplish assigned objectives. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. This position interfaces with WRPS technical personnel, and support organizations on a daily basis, as well as technical contract staff and National Laboratory personnel. This position interfaces ORP technical personnel on a weekly basis. Interfaces periodically with regulators from Ecology and EPA. Interface periodically with the DOE HQ personnel from the LFRG and HLW Committees, NRC, and others. Interfaces with stakeholders and the public, including Tribal Nations and the Hanford Advisory Board on an occasional basis
