Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking a Safety Advisor for our Joffre, AB location.

The Site Safety Advisor will be responsible for leading, overseeing and coordinating the management of safety on the project site. They will be working closely with EVO’s Safety Coordinator and the Contractor’s Safety Manager.

The Safety Representative will follow the AECOM Safety Management Plan and utilize the AECOM Safety Management System and documentation.

Responsibilities :

  • Custodian of AECOM EHS Strategic Execution Plan and primary point of contact for Safety related issues;

  • Ensuring the AECOM and Contractor’s safety procedures are being followed at all times;

  • Participate in the toolbox meetings at the start of each shift;

  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings to discuss what went right and what went wrong over last 24 hours along with the near misses and things to watch out for.

  • Conduct ad-hoc safety audits;

  • Know, understand and comply with safety and regulatory requirements;

  • Ensure all Subcontractors working for AECOM are following AECOM and Client’s requirements;

  • Provide General and Site Specific AECOM orientation to all employees;

  • Ensure Orientation package is completed and kept on file for each new hire, review for any highlights and updated when required;

  • Identify any Green Hat or Green Hand program participants to ensure they are assigned a mentor;

  • Identify any personnel with restrictions or special conditionsand communicate to SHE Lead or Site Manager;;

  • Ensure, during AECOM Orientation, all training records/certificates are copied and filed. These copies will be obtained from HR Recruitment department and uploaded into the AECOM database;

  • Complete field observations to confirm competency results from orientation and training;

  • Maintain all safety records in proper files;

  • Ensure safe work practices are available to all workers and management employees;

  • Monitor the A&D program ensuring compliance to AECOM A&D Policies and Procedures;

  • Maintain a presence in the field at least 75% of the time;

  • Ensure Pre-Job Hazard Assessment development and review with all involved trades and subcontractors prior to engaging in the next major scope/phase of the Project, major change to ensure adequate control measures are provided for the job scope;

  • Coordinate WCB cases with EHS Manager;

  • Other duties that may not be assigned in this position description.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering or demonstrated equivalent.

  • Field / Site SH&E experience.

  • CSTS (Construction Safety Training Systems) or PST (Petroleum Safety Training).

  • H2S Alive.

  • Aerial Work Platform (AWP or EWP).

  • Fall Arrest and/or Fall Protection (OSSA issued ticket is the general requirement).

  • Valid Driver's License and clean abstract required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience.

  • SH&E Certification preferred.

  • First Aid.
