Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented, motivated and experienced Scientist III – Geology/Environmental Scientist for immediate employment in our Raleigh, NC office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supports execution of projects involving soil and groundwater investigation, compliance, and remediation activities in accordance with the Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, or other regulatory programs

  • Assists Senior Project/Program Managers in efficient execution of project scope of work on time and within budget

  • Manages small to medium sized projects

  • Reviews contract documents

  • Provides field services for more complex site investigation task (complex drilling, aquifer test design and implementation, etc.)

  • Provides office support for data management and report preparation

  • Maintains the required AECOM-related documentation and forms

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or Environmental Science

  • 4+ years of environmental experience

  • Good communicator, self-motivated, good mechanical aptitude, and competent use of safe-work behaviors

  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel; Access a plus) are desirable

  • Must be able to write and convey thoughts, and organize data in an efficient and clear manner; have excellent attention to detail; effectively multi-task; and desire to contribute to a dynamic team

  • Non-office/field skills: problem solving, mechanical knowledge

  • Report writing, data organization, and presentation

  • Strong scheduling, team building, and budget management skills

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain medical clearance for driving and wearing a respirator

  • Ability to work, think, and make decisions independently

  • Ability to work with diverse staff in office and non-office setting (i.e., outdoors, undeveloped/wooded areas, year-round)

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

  • Some (20-40%) out of town, overnight travel required. Ability to travel out-of-State (NC) to complete field work (potentially>10 days or longer). Position is based in Raleigh, North Carolina and will require overnight travel primarily in the Mid-Atlantic States (primarily NC, VA, SC, TN)

  • Field tasks may require ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs

  • Must be able to conform to AECOM travel policies, including ability to obtain and hold the AECOM corporate credit card for use in making travel-related purchases

  • Must demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Geology or Environmental Science

  • 5+ years of environmental experience

  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training (29 CFR 1910.120)

  • PG License/tract to obtain

  • Experienced in soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring well drilling and construction management.

  • Aquifer testing, groundwater/fate and transport modeling experience

  • Geophysical instrumentation/interpretation experience

  • Mechanical, problem solving skills
