AECOM is currently seeking an experienced Sr. Marine/Sediment Specialist with strong technical and management experience to assist with high profile contaminated sediments projects in the Pacific NW and also support these projects throughout North America. The primary project work is out of our Seattle, WA and Portland OR offices, the location is flexible. We seek a technically proficient individual with demonstrated experience successfully addressing the investigation and restoration of contaminated sediment sites with multiple potentially responsible parties (PRPs), including experience with evaluation and implementation of contaminated sediment dredging, capping and natural recovery projects. A successful candidate must be able to write and to convey thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner; and oversee and work productively with junior technical staff and subcontractors while assuring work scopes and safety requirements are met. Excellent communication, organization and prioritization skills will be necessary to work in our collaborative team-oriented offices; strong interpersonal skills are a must. The individual should have a relevant technical background in engineering, physical sciences, oceanography or ecological studies in marine/coastal and aquatic systems and experience in planning and managing projects.
Specific responsibilities include:
Managing assessments, remedial investigations, feasibility studies, and remedial designs for cleanup of complex sediment sites with terrestrial, river, lake, or marine concerns under CERCLA or state programs
Designing statistically robust sediment characterization assessments
Planning and directing environmental sampling programs and critically evaluating laboratory data
Developing technically astute Conceptual Site Models for understanding contaminated sediment sites
Conducting Feasibility and Treatability Studies to evaluate remedial options
Implementing solutions and offering innovations to remediate contaminated sediment sites
Engaging in regular client and regulatory communication relating to project management, technical issues, and cleanup strategies.
Supervising junior staff in documentation preparation and eventual implementation of remedial actions, such as remediation design, construction oversight, and long-term monitoring projects
Researching and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Modeling to support remedial analyses or specialized knowledge, such as bioavailability in sediment
Training and leadership development in sediment remediation and environmental sediment site assessment
Qualify for and obtain Project Management accreditation
Manage multi-discipline teams to deliver comprehensive studies related to market-driven regulatory actions
Actively communicating in high-pace environments requiring organic decision-making
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline, such as marine science, ecology, biology/chemistry, environmental engineering, or other environmental discipline
10+ years of experience as an environmental consultant, industry representative, or regulator versed in sediment remediation requirements in the Pacific NW
Relevant, recent, direct experience negotiating at multiple PRP sites for site assessment strategies and cleanup program objectives
Excellent understanding of health and safety requirements to work on water
Experience developing and preparing reports regarding regulatory compliance for hazardous constituents in sediment for submittal and acceptance for technical client and state agency review
Experience with site investigation techniques, developing conceptual site models, and preparing remediation strategies
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clients, project team, subcontractors and research organizations
Ability to write and review complex technical documents, perform high level review and strategy
Comprehension of Government compliant technical reports, deliverables, recordkeeping
Computer proficient in MS Office, ESRI ARC GIS, and a variety of statistical programs helpful
Strong team worker, flexible and hard working
Attention to detail and a thorough approach to work
Strong communication skills at all levels
Organized and able to manage multiple tasks/projects at a time
OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification, and current 8-hour refresher
