Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking an experienced Environmental Professional with strong technical experience to work within a team to perform the assessment of contaminated sites in the Pacific NW to support third-party allocation. The primary project work is out of our Portland, OR and Seattle, WA offices; the location is flexible although there is a preference for the successful candidate to be based in Portland. We seek a technically proficient individual with demonstrated experience successfully addressing the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites with multiple potentially responsible parties (PRPs), including strong experience with developing conceptual site models (CSMs) that detail contaminant sources, nature and extent, migration pathways, and fate and transport mechanisms. A successful candidate must be able to write and convey thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner. Excellent communication, organization and prioritization skills will be necessary to work in our collaborative team-oriented offices; strong interpersonal skills are a must. The individual should have relevant technical background in the physical or environmental sciences or engineering, including but not limited to geology, hydrogeology, marine/coastal or other aquatic systems, or environmental engineering.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Working within a team of technical experts to assess multiple PRP contaminated sites to support third-party allocation

  • Developing clear and defensible CSMs for complex sites ranging from uplands to contaminated sediments

  • Data visualization and developing clear graphics able to convey technical concepts in an understandable manner

  • Conducting significant research to identify contaminant sources ranging from historical upland to in-river operations

  • Evaluating contaminant transport pathways and conducting mass loading calculations for a variety of pathways including air, overland transport, storm water, groundwater, and overwater activities

  • Evaluating complex environmental data sets, including the use of modeling and statistics, to develop the CSMs

  • Evaluating river flow and sediment transport to assess contaminant transport from upstream to downstream areas

  • Preparing technical reports presenting CSMs and contaminant mass loading to support third-party allocation

  • Engaging in regular client communication relating to project management, technical issues, and allocation strategies

  • Actively communicating with the technical team and Project Manager

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline, including but not limited to geology, hydrogeology, marine/coastal or other aquatic systems, or environmental engineering

  • 8+ years of experience as an environmental consultant, industry representative, or regulator versed in contaminated site investigation, remediation, and allocation

  • Professional registration or track to obtain professional registration

  • Experience with developing conceptual site models, and preparing remediation strategies

  • Experience developing and preparing reports for submittal and acceptance for technical client and allocation support

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clients and project team

  • Ability to write and review complex technical documents, perform high level review and strategy

  • Ability to prepare graphics and reports that present complex technical matter in a clear and concise manner

  • Computer proficient in MS Office, ESRI ARC GIS, and a variety of statistical programs helpful
