Job Summary

AECOM’s Transportation Planning Division is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Urban Design Project Manager for immediate employment in the Phoenix, Arizona Office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an educational and career path in architecture or transportation planning, with proven experience of contributing to planning efforts and other related projects. The ideal candidates will demonstrate an ability to be highly organized, work well independently and with team, and the ability to communicate clearly. Responsibilities include:

  • Play a key role in developing solutions to policy and physical planning problems.

  • Full oversight, authority and accountability for larger, more visible, complex projects.

  • Possesses technical excellence in area of specialty that is critical to the firm’s success.

  • May possess full technical control over project.

  • Sources and follows up on business development leads.

  • Oversees the work of others and mentors others.

  • Financial and project management goals are defined by the organization annually.

  • Collect, organize, and manage data to conduct transportation/transit alignment and facility siting studies.

  • Respond to questions and requests from project team members, clients, and other stakeholders.

  • Lead meetings with clients, members of the public, and other stakeholders.

  • This position may require occasional travel.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in transportation planning, urban planning, architecture, transportation, civil engineering, public policy, or related area of study

  • 15+ years relevant planning experience

  • Solid background in transportation planning, urban design, transit oriented development and economic development

  • Innovative, detail-oriented, and has experienced in highly visible/controversial projects

  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills, and exhibit sound and independent judgment within general policy guidelines

  • Ability to understand and manage high-profile, sensitive or controversial political situations – ability to work with diverse communities on difficult and contentious issues

  • Good understanding of pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations, including recent changes, procedures and practices

  • Aware of recent developments, current literature and sources of information related to municipal planning and administration

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

  • Knowledge of FTA planning processes

  • Ability to manage planning projects in accordance with local and national standards.

  • Working knowledge of GIS

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, research, economic development and data collection.

  • Analytical skills to interpret research data for reports and apply mathematic techniques in practical situations.

  • Technical writing capability
