Job Summary

The Water Business Unit of AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Surface Water Engineer for immediate employment in the Phoenix, AZ office. The successful candidate will provide surface water modeling and design support for stormwater, transportation, flood control, flood mapping and H&H projects. The position will involve working on projects for the state, local municipalities, federal agencies, and private clients to conduct hydrologic/hydraulic modeling and design.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing 1-D and 2-D hydrologic/hydraulic modeling for flood hazard mapping and mitigation studies, dam breach inundation studies, bridge and stream scour, drainage master planning and design

  • Performing design of stormwater control facilities (including culverts, detention/retention ponds and open channels) and directing surface water modeling, mapping, and designing of stormwater and flood control structures

  • Performing design of stormwater collection systems for state and municipal clients

  • Work with a team of hydrologic/hydraulic modeling professionals to complete technical tasks, complete quality assurance/quality control reviews, and prepare high quality work products including documentation of model development, calibration, results, and reports, including the application of engineering judgement.

  • Exercise judgment in developing details of work and making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Preparing documentation of calculations

  • Preparing engineering reports

  • Prepare design drawings, plans, sections, details, and profiles/sections within the MicroStation InRoads Storm and Sanitary and/or Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD MEP and StormCAD

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in hydrology, hydraulics, and/or water resources

  • 5+ years of experience in surface water modeling and design

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with plans of obtaining Professional Engineer within 1year of hire

  • Exhibits in-depth knowledge of surface water modeling, planning and design projects and related technologies

  • Demonstrated familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (e.g. HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS ), and plan set production design software (e.g. Microstation, Inroads Storm and Sanitary, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, StormCAD)

  • Demonstrated familiarity with GIS and automated H/H tools

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

  • Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ownership and accountability for quality deliverables

  • Ability to communicate the technical aspects of projects to a wide audience

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as exceptional organizational skills

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-Dimensional hydrologic/hydraulic modeling using FLO-2D and/or HEC-RAS 2D

  • Bridge scour analysis
