The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids
Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
Applying knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices for assigned transportation design projects
Assisting a project manager or senior engineer with task production including preparing engineering related calculations, drawings, and visual aids
Assisting in maintaining project documentation
Producing high quality plans that are accurate and effective in communicating the design concept to the constructor
Transportation design including but not limited to
Track geometric layout
Cross-sections & typical sections
Plan review and client interaction
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation engineering
5+ years of experience
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)
Significant experience developing horizontal and vertical alignments, using InRoads or Civil 3D software packages
Experience coordinating with multiple disciplines for the submission of an engineering plan set
Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Be organized and detail-oriented
Willingness to travel (if and when required)
Must possess a valid driver's license
Master's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering
Professional Engineer (PE)
Familiarity in freight or transit rail clients
Previous work experience in rail is preferred
