AECOM Mechanical Designer in Ottawa, Ontario

Job Summary

The Buildings + Places Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Mechanical Technologist, for immediate employment in the Whitby or Ottawa office. We are looking for an individual with experience in industrial, municipal and commercial projects with broad skills in all phases of project delivery. They must have strong technical knowledge. Experience in field review and contract administration is essential.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Drafting and design of plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection systems

  • Preparation of primarily mechanical drawing deliverables and assisting with architectural, structural and electrical drawing deliverables as required

  • Co-ordination of the Mechanical drafting with the drafting of other disciplines

  • Assisting Engineers for required inputs from drawings

  • Assisting Engineers with load calculations and sizing of ductwork and piping

  • Performing drafting assignments utilizing computer aided design and drafting software; preparation of plans, sections, elevations, details, and construction documents for review and approval

  • Participating in the Quality Review process with the responsible Engineer and Lead Verifier

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidates must have at least a High School Diploma + 2years+ of relevant experience OR demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate/degree from an accredited technical training school or community college of design and drafting of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection with several years of practical experience in a full Revit / AutoCAD / MicroStation office environment with the relevant discipline background very strongly preferred.

  • Experience in multi-disciplinary projects as related to buildings and infrastructure market segments

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit. Experience in MicroStation also considered an asset.

  • Versed in complex drawing compositions

  • Versed in following and implementing Client CAD/BIM Standards

  • Ability to read multi-disciplinary plans

  • Self-starter and can work with minimum supervision

  • Excellent comprehension of verbal and written English

  • Self-motivated as well as a team player

  • Solid drawing composition abilities

  • Able to graphically translate verbal and visual instructions into working drawings

  • Coordinate drawings with other disciplines

  • Familiar with Building Code, Energy Code, Plumbing Code, Fire Code, ASHRAE standards, NFPA, and SMACNA
