Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking an Intermediate Water Resources Engineer for immediate employment in the Ottawa, Ontario office. The successful candidate must have a good understanding of water resources engineering practices and have proven experience in the design of municipal infrastructure. Capability in CAD and GIS would be an asset. The successful candidate will also have an opportunity to contribute to a wide variety of water resources projects that include stormwater and watershed management and modelling, environmental assessments, hydrology, hydraulics, stream rehabilitation and natural channel design, in-field assessments and monitoring.

Skills you will likely use or develop in this job position are hydraulic and hydrologic modelling, stormwater management, water quality and quantity monitoring, municipal infrastructure design, data analysis, and report / proposal writing all in a friendly, fast-paced consulting engineering work environment at AECOM in Ottawa. This role offers the right candidate the potential for a fast upwards career progression within AECOM.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Working directly with the group manager, project engineers, fluvial geomorphologists, ecologists, and support staff on projects related to Water Resources across Ontario

  • Responsible for projects including communicating with client, meetings, project management, completing technical analysis and reviews, preparing reports and proposals, conceptual / preliminary and detailed designs of stormwater management infrastructure

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in related field

  • 5+ years of water resources experience

  • Registered /eligible to register as a P. Eng with the PEO

  • Strong technical knowledge of all water resources practices, ideally in Ontario

  • Capability to develop and apply various water resources modeling programs e.g. HEC-RAS, SWMM, SWMHYMO, VISUAL OTTHYMO etc

  • Interested and capable to take on Project Management duties (schedule and budget control, client contact, proposal writing etc

  • Ability to learn quickly, communicate effectively and work with others is essential

  • Strong computer skills including advanced working knowledge of Word and Excel

  • Must possess excellent organizational, communication and writing skills

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management experience

  • Experience delegating to less experienced staff is an asset

  • Design and construction experience related to transportation infrastructure, stormwater and/or erosion and slope stability projects will be considered an asset

  • Knowledge of government policies, legislation and regulation, emerging trends and best practices in water resources will be considered an asset

  • Interest in Project Management duties (schedule and budget control, client contact, proposal writing etc.) considered an asset

  • Experience including preparation of cost estimates and tender packages as well as contract administration

  • Experience with Fluvial Geomorphology and Natural Channel design would be considered a strong asset

  • Experience with 2D hydraulic modeling would be an asset
