Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an

Engineer 3 - Nuclear Safety to be based in our OakRidge, TN office.

The Nuclear Safety Engineer is responsible for providing engineering guidance, calculations, analysis, studies and recommendations for a specialized segment of engineering within schedule and budget of an assigned project. Additional responsibilities may be assigned according to the needs of the company, project, or contract.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Prepares, reviews and approves drawings as required.

  • Leads various size groups of engineers, designers and/or specialists.

  • Uses data supplied by others to prepare a basic outline of work to be completed and establishes a schedule compatible with project goals and budgets.

  • Develops and documents all calculations for assignments.

  • Prepares and documents economic analyses and other system studies.

  • Provides progress reports and alerts others about delays and specialized conditions.

  • Prepares and presents expert testimony before regulatory bodies and courts.

  • Prepares and makes presentations to client and company management.

  • Contributes to technical literature in area of specialty.

  • Assists with the preparation of project scope within a specific discipline.

  • Works toward alignment of customer and company objectives.

  • Assists with interpreting codes and permitting as it relates to a specific discipline.

  • Fully understands the use of vendor documents and can review documents for accuracy.

  • Ensures quality, quantity, and completeness of the assigned engineering tasks.

  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Q clearance.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate engineering discipline from a four year accredited college or university;

  • 5 to 10 years of professional engineering experience in nuclear facilities.

  • Must be knowledgeable in Safety Basis Process for Nuclear Facilities including Documented Safety Analyses (DSA), Technical Safety Requirement (TSR), Unreviewed Safety Questions (USQ) and Safety Analysis.

  • System engineering experience required.

  • Working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications.

  • Organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.

  • Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be US Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master Degree in appropriate engineering discipline a plus.

  • Prior DOE experience with Nuclear Safety document development highly preferred.
