Job Summary

We are currently looking for a Principal Building Services Mechanical Engineer to join our established Building Services team in Nottingham. AECOM’s Nottingham Office is a multidisciplinary unit numbering 200+ staff, which has a small Building Services team with remit and workload to grow.

  • BMW - Plants Swindon and Oxford

  • Blue Light Hub - Cumbria County Council

Minimum Requirements

At this level we are looking for highly skilled candidates with the following experience and understanding;

  • Proficient in the use of Hevacomp design software

  • Proficient in the use of IES Virtual Environment modelling software

  • Competent in the use of NBS specification writing software

  • Competent in designing coordinated containment runs and optimising ceiling spaces with electrical colleagues

  • Familiar with drawing outputs required for 3D modelling in Revit software

  • Thorough knowledge of Water Bye Laws and CIBSE Design Guides

  • An intuitive approach to initial loading estimates to generate utility quotations and initial plant accommodation

  • Familiar with Building Regulations requirements for energy conservation and low carbon technologies

  • Capable of managing complex projects from start to finish

  • Planning and managing projects to deliver required financial performance

  • Excellent communication skills both internally and within the design team environment

  • Proven ability to mentor staff and coordinate delivery of multi-disciplinary project teams

  • Comfortable in engaging with external parties at the highest level

  • Design experience of hot and cold water systems and distribution, ventilation, heating, chilling and above ground drainage

  • Good knowledge of passive design techniques

Preferred Qualifications

At principal level, we expect candidates to have the following qualifications and knowledge;

  • Masters degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering

  • Member or Fellow of CIBSE

  • CEng accredited

  • Significant, demonstrable experience in a design consultancy environment

  • Portfolio of relevant work demonstrating required competencies across broad sectors including industrial, defence, education, commercial and healthcare
