Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Survey Instrument Operator / Technician for immediate employment with our N. Charleston, SC Civil /Site Land Development Team! This group is growing rapidly and multiple positions are available at all levels. Under the direction of the Party Chief, your responsibilities in this role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Adjusts and operates surveying instruments such as prisms, theodolites, levels, GPS, electronic distance-measuring equipment and data collectors

  • Positions and holds vertical rods, or targets, that theodolite operators use for sighting to measure angles, distances and elevations

  • Lays out grids and determines horizontal and vertical controls

  • May record survey measurements and descriptive data using data collectors, notes, drawings, sketches and inked tracings

  • Searches for property irons and survey points

  • Compares survey computations with applicable standards to determine adequacy of data

  • Sets out and recovers stakes, marks and other monuments

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 0-2 years of experience

  • Basic understanding of the equipment and technology for surveying activities

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor work environment subject to hot/cold temperatures and uneven terrain

  • Valid driver’s license required with acceptable driving record for local area travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience on construction sites on large land development, industrial, commercial or retail projects would be a plus

  • Experience in boundary, topographic and asbuilt site surveys

  • Experience working with route surveys
