AECOM Senior Fire Protection Engineer in Norfolk, Virginia

We are actively seeking a talented Senior Fire Protection Engineer for immediate employment in our Norfolk, VA office.

The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team

  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others.

  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.

  • Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.

  • Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package.

  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.

  • Prepares technical specification sections.

  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience or AA/AS + 8 years of relevant experience

  • The ideal candidate shall have a thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of fire protection engineering, including fire suppression, fire alarm, life safety, building codes, egress, and fire modeling.

  • The candidate shall be a professional engineer (P.E. or similar designation) registered in Fire Protection Engineering.

  • Must have familiarity with hydraulic calculation and design (2-D and 3-D) design software systems.

  • This position requires sound technical knowledge of DoD and UFC code requirements as well as the applicable NFPA and ICC codes and standards for fire protection and life safety criteria.

  • Position requires effective communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

  • The successful candidate will be articulate with professional presence, solid decision-making, planning, and organizational skills.

  • Must be able to work independently without direct supervision.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • US citizen eligible to meet US federal government security background check (Facility Security Clearance obtained through the Defense Security Service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Code consultation for both internal and external customers on the proper and appropriate application of fire protection and life safety requirements.

  • Design review services for new construction, renovation and modification projects, for compliance with applicable fire protection and life safety requirements.

  • Conduct inspection and survey services of various types of facilities to ensure that the facility meets applicable fire protection and life safety requirements.

  • Serve as lead fire protection engineer for fire protection and multi-discipline projects.

  • Proficient with development of drawings, specifications, hydraulic calculations, reports, and design analyses.

  • Familiarity with hydraulic calculation and design (2-D and 3-D) design software systems.

  • Ability to lead meetings with clients, code officials, and other project stakeholders to negotiate / resolve fire protection and / or life safety code issues.

  • Assist with miscellaneous services that require the use of Microsoft Office.

  • Assist with the development of fire protection reports, studies, designs, training, presentations and classes.

  • Ability to travel regionally, nationally, and internationally in support of project requirements.

  • Position requires effective communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

  • The successful candidate will be articulate with professional presence, solid decision-making, planning, and organizational skills.
