AECOM Northeast Tunnel Leader in New York, New York

Job Summary

The Department Head/Northeast Tunnel Leader will collaborate with the Director of the Tunnel and Underground Engineering group to:

  • Lead the tunneling staff in the NE region and will be the Department head of the New Office Tunnel department

  • Manage and supervise the staff assignments, work load, proposals and pursuits.

  • Participate in the development of the tunnel and underground engineering strategic plans; build relationships with public and private clients (contractors) and industry leaders.

  • Grow the tunneling, geotechnical, and underground engineering practice

  • Identify, attract, and assist in recruiting additional tunneling and geotechnical staff Participate in organizing the tunneling, geotechnical, and tunnel system staff into an integrated group

  • Participate in the establishment of Center(s) of Excellence of tunneling and underground engineering

  • Participate in the development of pursuit strategies, technical concepts, and proposal technical approaches

  • Be part of pink and red team reviews and provide technical oversight of proposal preparation, interview and execution of projects

  • Participate in establishing and developing teaming relationships with other consulting firms as necessary

  • Lead projects or underground segment of a project.

  • Collaborate with National Tunnel and Underground Engineering Practice Risk and Quality Leaders to recommend Risk Management Plan and Quality Plan on projects. Help oversee the implement of the plans.

  • Help in establishing and enhancement of client relationships

  • Collaborate with the Tunnel Practice Technical Leaders on subject of expertize to recommend design concepts, solutions, and methodologies

  • Provide technical oversight on technical matters during execution of projects

  • Attend industry events, serve on panels, and publish to foster AECOM’s tunneling and underground engineering practice

Minimum Requirements

  • Fifteen or more years of tunnel and underground related experience

  • BS in civil engineering with emphasis in tunneling or geotechnical engineering is required; MS or PhD degrees are preferred

  • Thorough knowledge of various tunneling methods and techniques, geotechnical aspects, deep cuts, difficult ground conditions, and other related tunneling technical issues

  • PE registration in at least one state (in his/her geographical area) and willingness to obtain additional registrations in NY and/or NJ.

  • “Seller-doer”, independent thinker, and self-starter

  • Membership with relevant professional organizations and active participation in National tunneling and/or geotechnical associations

  • Publications in technical journals and conferences and seminars.

  • Good communication and presentation skills

  • Leadership characteristics

  • Strategic thinker, with demonstrated collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and gain the support of others

  • International experience and innovative concepts are a plus

  • Ability to work in a matrix organization

  • Ability to work with minimal direction

  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
