Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking candidates for a role as the Tunnel Ventilation Technical Leader in AECOM’s National Tunnel Practice and the NY Metro Region. As the Technical Leader of the Tunnel Ventilation Group in the NY Metro Region the candidate will report to the NY Metro Region Transportation Design Manager. The position will be located in our New York office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Help develop strategic plans; build relationships with public and private clients (contractors) and the industry leaders

  • Help grow the tunnel ventilation and underground practice in the firm by the development of pursuit strategies, technical concepts, and proposal technical approaches

  • Be part of pink and red team reviews and provide technical oversight of proposal preparation

  • Assist in establishing and developing teaming relationships with other consulting firms as necessary

  • Help identify, attract, and assist in recruiting additional tunneling staff in particular in NY Metro Region

  • Help strengthen the Tunnel Ventilation Center of Excellence in NYC

  • Collaborate with national tunnel and underground engineering practice risk and quality leaders to recommend risk management plan and quality plan on projects. Help oversee the implement of the plans

  • Help in establishing and enhancing client relationships

  • Collaborate with the Tunnel Practice Chief Engineers on subject of expertise to recommend design concepts, solutions, and methodologies

  • Provide technical oversight on technical matters during execution of projects

  • Attend industry events, serve on panels, and publish to foster AECOM’s tunneling and underground engineering practice

  • Help establish a Tunneling and Underground Engineering Center of Excellence in the NY Metro Region

  • Help grow the tunneling, geotechnical, and underground engineering practice in the NY Metro Region

  • Assist in the development of pursuit strategies, technical concepts, and proposal technical approaches for pursuits involving tunneling and underground engineering in the NY Metro Region

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • 15+ years of tunnel ventilation and underground structures related experience

  • Professional registration in at least one state and willingness to register in other states if needed

  • Thoroughly knowledgeable of various tunnel ventilation methods and technique

  • Must have a thorough knowledge of CFD modeling and the ability to mentor and oversee work by Junior engineers

  • Candidate shall be a “seller-doer”, independent thinker, and self-starter

  • Strong relationships and name recognition within the industry

  • Membership with relevant professional organizations and active participation in National societies and organizations

  • Publications in technical journals and conferences and seminars

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Leadership characteristics

  • Strategic thinker, with demonstrated collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and gain the support of others

  • Ability to work in a matrix organization

  • Ability to work with minimal direction

  • Ability and willingness to travel
