Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Structural Engineer or Senior Structural Engineer for immediate employment within either the Baton Rouge, LA (preferred) or New Orleans, LA office. This position will include not only exciting and challenging projects for our Louisiana clients, but also support for our regional bridge practice across the Gulf / Southwest from Mississippi to Arizona and involvement across the nation as appropriate.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope for the respective specialty

  • Perform work which involves conventional engineering practice, but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements

  • Serve as quality control reviewer

  • Lead, oversee and/or supervise assigned departmental personnel on projects and monitor their individual technical performance, providing guidance and direction, as needed

  • Initiate and complete the correction of any conditions which may adversely affect the completion of the project on schedule and within budget

  • Keep abreast of new scientific methods and developments in his/her specific field

  • Contribute inventions, new designs, or techniques which are of material significance in the solution of important problems

  • Take necessary actions to ensure the project proceeds on schedule and within budget limitations

  • Review shop drawings and Requests For Information (RFIs)

  • Implement and follow Company Quality Management System procedures

  • Utilizes Extensive knowledge of standard engineering practices, techniques, and procedures

  • Recognizes limitations in standard technical procedures and seeks creative solutions

Minimum Requirements

Structural Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a four - year accredited college or university

  • 10+ years of experience

  • Professional Engineer registered in State of Louisiana or ability to obtain through comity

  • Broad knowledge of precedents in bridge design including alternatives analysis, and final design.

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with bridge design codes

  • Experience in design and load rating of concrete and steel composite bridges. Other structures may include retaining walls, box culverts, arch culverts, canopies, sign structures, signal structures, and various types of foundations

  • Soil-structure analysis and design experience

  • Proficient in developing plans, specifications and engineering estimates meeting company and client standards

  • Experience in finite element analysis modeling, including shell, plate and solid elements

  • Proficient with Microstation and AutoCAD

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Detail oriented

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Strong organizational skills

Senior Structural Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a four - year accredited college or university

  • 15+ years of experience

  • Professional Engineer registered in State of Louisiana or ability to obtain through comity

  • Broad knowledge of precedents in the bridge design including alternatives analysis, and final design.

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with bridge design codes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Structural Engineering

  • 15+ years of experience

  • (Knowledge of the following Bridge Design and Analysis software preferred: MDX, AASHTOWare (VIRTIS), MIDAS, LUSAS, STAAD/PRO, SAP 2000, MathCAD, CONSPAN, RCPier, FBMULTIPIER)

  • Active member of professional and/or technical society

  • Experience with bridge inspection and rating a plus
