The Practice Managing Director (PMD) leads one of the business line’s primary practices. This position will play a key role in driving the overall growth, development and performance of the practice. Position can be based from any location in the US or Canada.
Primary Role : Growth, profitability and overall stewardship of the practice.
Reporting Line : Reports to the Business Line Executive, including key interactions with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Strategy & Growth Officer (CSGO).
Key Practice Staff Support : “Regional / Portfolio” Practice Leaders, Sales Directors, Technical Practice Director(s) and Director(s) of Operations (DOO). The Sales Director and DOO also have indirect reporting relationships to the CSGO and COO, respectively.
Key Performance Indicators : Include leading and lagging safety metrics, measures of employee engagement, growth and profitability.
Growth of the practice including market facing business leadership and development and implementation of the practice growth strategy in coordination with the business line management.
Inspire practice leadership and technical staff engagement and help drive their success. Leads, coaches, and provides mentorship for managers, supporting their professional development.
Profitability of the practice including innovative approaches to improve margin and operational efficiency.
Stewardship of the practice including industry leadership, development of a best-in-class safety culture, technical excellence and innovation, new product / service development and employee engagement.
Management of the practice’s commercial risk and pricing of services, in accordance with AECOM governance and in consultation with the BLE, COO, SGO, and Counsel.
Collaboration with co-PMDs to promote cross-selling of services, achieve successful capture of large-scale pursuits, and grow client accounts.
Collaboration with other Business Lines to promote cross selling and insourcing of services.
Supports the BLE and CSGO with development, planning, and implementation of the overall DCSA growth strategy.
Supports the development of the practice and overall business line’s financial goals and budget, forecasting of future revenues, and assessment and response to market conditions relevant to overall performance.
Collaborative and effective, growth-oriented business unit leader with a minimum 15 years of related experience, including 6 years in business leadership
Proven P&L experience running similarly sized businesses
Working knowledge of the practice
A known champion of the business internally and externally
Experience discerning new markets and develop business in those areas
Experience in working collaboratively in a matrix organization
Demonstrated experience building highly effective teams
Outstanding oral communication, written and presentation skills
Consultative, service-oriented mindset and collaborative problem-solving skills
Entrepreneurial spirit with drive to take on a leadership role and the growth accountability and responsibility that comes with it
