AECOM’s Transit and Rail Signals group is seeking a Transit & Rail Signals Lead Design Engineer to help lead an existing team of 5 design engineers and technicians. The position is open for immediate employment based out of AECOM’s Mississauga, ON office. This is a position of an experienced signals design engineer who is seeking a Lead position in their field.
This individual would deliver both large and small-scale signals projects in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Canada, and at times in the US as well.
As a lead design team member, the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Team Management / Leadership:
Primary role as a Lead Signals design engineer
Attend client meetings
Act as the designated signals/systems specialist
Comply with corporate safety, values and initiatives
Projects will be for:
North American heavy-rail freight and passenger systems to AREMA C&S standards
LRT and Subway transit systems
Perform design, review, and checking (up to 3rd level) for:
New and modified vital circuitry and application logic programs for automatic block systems, centralized traffic control, interlockings, and highway grade crossing warning systems
Review own work and work done by others for adherence to applicable standards, rules and regulations, as well as all applicable client standards and signal design policies and procedures
Prepare technical specifications
Perform hands-on design
P.Eng sealing of own drawings for as-installed conditions
10+ years of relevant experience
P.Eng or PE somewhere in Canada or the US (strong preference for Ontario)
Extensive rail signaling design experience
Experience delivering projects for commuter rail or freight rail
Significant experience with AREMA-based heavy-rail signal design
In depth knowledge of applicable laws, standards and regulations pertaining to railroad and transit signal systems and highway-rail grade crossing warning systems. Must specifically include knowledge of AREMA C&S Recommended Practices, GCS, GCR, CROR, and industry standards
Experience in grade crossing and vital microprocessor-based interlocking equipment programming
Proficient in highway grade crossing warning design, microprocessor-based constant warning time devices
Proficient in wayside signaling including ABS, CTC and Interlocking, both relay logic and Boolean or ladder logic
Experience with / working knowledge of both AutoCAD and MicroStation
Experience writing technical specifications
Experience undertaking design reviews
Competent written and verbal English skills
Experience with Metrolinx, TTC, CN, CP, VIA Rail, AMT or similar
Understanding of CN (GI’s & SCP’s) or CP (RP’s)
Experience with LRT and/or subway signaling
In addition to office-based design, also experience with testing/commissioning, construction, maintenance, and/or operations
