Job Description

AECOM’s Transit and Rail Signals group is seeking a Transit & Rail Signals Design Engineer to join our growing team in Mississauga. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a passion for rail systems design and a desire to contribute to meaningful transit projects in the Greater Toronto Area.

You’ll be part of a supportive and experienced team, working on both large and small-scale projects across heavy rail, LRT, and subway systems. The role offers strong mentorship opportunities and exposure to hands-on design, field work, and client interaction.

This is a hybrid role based in Mississauga, with occasional office days( 2 days per week).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the design and review of transit signal systems in accordance with AREMA and local standards.

  • Assist in preparing detailed design drawings and technical specifications.

  • Participate in internal and client meetings, under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Contribute to the development and checking of signal circuitry, software application logic, and design deliverables.

  • Learn and apply standards such as Transport Canada, CN GI/SCPs, CP RPs, and Metrolinx signal design guidelines.

  • Collaborate with other disciplines and project teams to ensure coordinated design.

  • Maintain a strong commitment to safety and AECOM’s core values.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements (On-site Role):

  • This role is based on-site

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in railway signals design

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Willingness to occasionally work evenings, weekends, or be on-call, if required

  • Eligibility for P.Eng. licensure in Ontario within 12 months

Preferred Qualifications:

  • P.Eng. designation in Ontario (or other province).

  • Experience working with Metrolinx, TTC, CN, CP, or other rail/transit agencies.

  • Familiarity with AREMA C&S standards and rail signaling principles.

  • Exposure to design, testing, commissioning, or maintenance of rail signal systems.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $70,000.00 - $110,000.00.
