Job Description

The Program Cost Consultancy of AECOM is currently seeking a pragmatic, highly talented and experienced MEP Cost Consultant to provide cost estimating support. This position will be based on Mississauga, ON location with opportunities for hybrid work.

Major Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Complete estimating and cost planning requirements through pre-contract design phases

  • Managing and assisting in post- contract change order review

  • Design Phase (Required):

  • Developing detailed cost estimates from engineering drawings; identify deficiencies and/or questions; and assist the project team toward the answers

  • Have an understanding for the make-up of net-costs; including review of equipment/material prices, labor rates/ fringe benefits

  • Completing comparative system cost options i.e. cost alternatives or Value Engineering and reviews to help the design team in selection processes through-out the pre-contract design phases

  • Be willing to accumulate, evaluate and document historical cost data for the development of future estimates

  • Preparation of Class D – A cost estimate

  • Provide coordination and liaison with project management and project engineering personnel throughout the estimate development

  • Construction phase (desirable):

  • Review contract documents and contract modifications to determine scope of work and cost allowances for scope changes

  • Review the scope specified within the proposal to ensure it is specification compliant

  • Review labor rates to ensure conformance to the contract requirements

  • Review labor productivity to ensure that the labor hours are in conformance with contract working restrictions, overtime is appropriate, etc

  • Review quantities and ensure there is a fair and reasonable representation of additional scope, as well as possible credits

  • Review pre-purchased material or equipment and/or equipment rental rates against fair and reasonable pricing references

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:

  • University Degree in a relevant field of study + four (4) years of relevant experience.

If a candidate does not have this, then a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

Preferred Requirements:

  • MEP cost estimating experience directly related to both engineering and/or construction projects

  • Demonstrated experience with change order Analysis

  • Familiarity with CIQS/OIQS and Uniformat Estimating Standards considered and Asset

  • Must be competent in spoken & written presentation for; estimates, reconciling documents, etc

  • Must be assertive but fair and reasonable when negotiating for all of the above

  • Demonstrated experience with all Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing elements is desirable. Biased for one trade is acceptable

  • Self-starter attitude with results oriented focus

  • Demonstrate a proactive, firm and respectful approach to estimate reconciliation efforts and change order processing

  • Proficient with industry estimating databases and other estimating data sources, e.g. RS Means, Mechanical Contractors Association, Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), etc

  • Proficient with estimating software

  • Proven accuracy, reliability and completeness in job accomplishment

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • CEC for Electrical and Mechanical

  • Knowledge to work with Excel and CostX

Additional Information

  • Company paid relocation is not available for this position.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $68,000.00 - $85,000.00.
