Job Summary

We are looking for a Project Accountant to engage with Operations as the financial partner on a diversified portfolio of projects spanning multiple service offerings across the Midwest Region. The ideal candidate will independently solve problems and offer solutions to Project Managers while remaining consistent with standard policies and best practices.

This position is at leading edge of the partnership between Operations and Finance & Accounting and is uniquely positioned to drive profitability in the business while upholding key financial controls.

Responsibilities include:

  • Engage in regular meetings with Project Managers and/or project delivery teams to ensure projects are on track to deliver as-sold profit margins

  • Actively collaborate with peers in F&A to knowledge share and drive efficiencies across the team

  • Participate in project review preparation, execution, and follow up

  • Ensure all incurred costs are reflected on projects accurately and in a timely manner

  • Consult Project Managers during the preparation of Estimates-at-Completion (EAC’s) to verify forecasts accurately depict the financial situation of the project

  • Coordinate with project teams to drive best practices and desired behaviors throughout the project lifecycle

  • Reconcile contracts and change orders to ensure budgets reflect as-sold margins and certify pending change orders are properly documented, approved, and reported

  • Work proactively with Project Managers to monitor and correct project financial issues such as % complete> 100%, billings in excess of earnings, cash> contract value and others issues as they occur

  • Perform ad-hoc project analysis reporting as needed by management

  • Support Project Management team in understanding financial and project management systems and concepts

  • Prepare and review month end events to ensure they are processed accurately and timely

  • Understand the commercial and billing requirements of contracts to confirm projects are set up in compliance with contract terms

  • Assist Project Accounting Managers with internal and external audit support as required

  • Support project pursuit teams with financial elements of low and moderate risk bid preparations

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting, or related field

  • 3+ years of related experience supporting project managers and project teams with the financial execution of professional services contracts

  • Proven history using Microsoft Excel to manipulate data and produce insightful analyses

  • Experience with project costing methodologies for project pursuits and proposals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity using Oracle (or similar ERP) to deliver projects is desirableAdditional Information:
