Job Summary

AECOM’s Ontario office is currently seeking a Project Specialist for immediate employment in our Project Management Organization (PMO) in Ontario. The focus of this PMO group is the assessment and remediation of Oil & gas client sites under a fixed price and /or performance based contracts. The Project Manager will provide leadership to a team of environmental engineers, scientists and field technicians on an established program. Ideally the role will be based in our Markham or Guelph offices, but other locations may be considered for the ideal candidate.

The Project Specialist will be responsible to manage a group of downstream oil and gas remediation projects at former gas stations and retail facilities. The appropriately qualified candidate will have 3+ years experience.

The appropriately qualified applicant will have strong project management skills including financial project controls, scheduling, budget development, human and material resource planning, change management identification and control and client/stakeholder relationship development.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan and coordinate Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments and remedial works at downstream facilities for large oil and gas clients.

  • Provide technical expertise and trouble shooting skills for environmental investigation and remediation projects.

  • Prepare environmental site investigation reports, groundwater monitoring and sampling reports and remedial action plans (RAPs)

  • Support, implement, and steward AECOM’s/Client’s safety programs by conducting safety audits, investigations, and training exercises

  • Maintain positive working relationships with client contacts, suppliers, contractors, engineering consultants, and external agencies

  • Task coordination and diligent health and safety planning

  • Managing and coordinating remediation programs with large Oil and Gas Clients

  • Accountability for project delivery expectations related to schedule, budget, quality and client satisfaction

  • Demonstrating creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual project delivery and technical problems

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology/Hydrogeology; Environmental Science; or similar

  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience with strengths in Phased Environmental Site and remediation

  • Experience leading $5-$10M remediation and reclamation programs

  • Full understanding of Ontario regulations and CCME guidelines, in particular for remediation for oil and gas clients.

  • Experience coordinating Phase I, II and III Environmental Site Assessments and reclamation

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Project, Excel and Word

  • Experience coordinating multiple environmental projects

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills that facilitate detailed planning, timely decision-making and efficient implementation

  • A proven ability to analyze data, write technical reports, experience applying Ontario and CCME guidelines, provide quality control and assurance and present results to client is an asset

  • Demonstrate an understanding of contaminant source identification, fate, transport, and exposure pathways through review of historical data and development of conceptual site models

  • Experience with multiple field sampling/testing techniques and prescriptive laboratory sample submission QA/QC procedures

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

  • Can-do, positive attitude and an ability to work in a fast-paced team environment to manage challenging projects
