Job Summary

This position is located in Mannheim , Germany.

The Heavy Equipment Track Mechanic works as part of a team with up to 27 team members; possible deployment may be required to other sites to perform inspections on equipment that is either being issued out to or returned from using Units; overtime work hours may be required. Performs organizational, intermediate level maintenance/modifications on military equipment such as: M1A2 tanks, M2A2/M3A3 Bradley fighting vehicles, ABV assault vehicles; sub-systems, support equipment such as mine plows, rollers, and other related items.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily.

  1. Diagnoses system malfunctions, isolate causes, and correct deficiencies.

  2. Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using Technical Manuals (TM).

  3. Inspects, repairs, and replaces components, engines, transmissions, and sub-assemblies.

  4. Identifies parts in repair manuals and places order request for needed parts.

  5. Performs annual service on equipment fleet.

  6. Performs road test on vehicles after repairs and services have been completed.

  7. Maintain a daily timesheet and daily manning report and ensuring times are accurate.

  8. All APS-2 contractor mechanics are expected to provide their own basic mechanics tool set.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to situations where risk of electrical shock and vibration exist. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Minimum Requirements

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

High School graduate or equivalent with 3 years’ experience as a mechanic is required; 2 years specialized experience working with heavy equipment track vehicles equivalent to the M1A2 tank (British equivalent; Challenger), M2A2/M3A3 Bradley fighting vehicle (British equivalent; CVRT/Warrior), and the ABV assault vehicle.

Work experience may be substituted for educational requirements and/or educational achievements may be substituted for years of experience. Example: Two (2) years of experience is equivalent to (2) years of college and vice versa.

Additional requirements:

  1. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and a government background check.

  2. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance if applicable.

  3. Must have a valid driver's license.

  4. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).

  5. Must be able to meet and maintain all base access security requirements.

  6. Must have the ability to analyze and interpret U.S. Army Technical Manuals with relation to vehicle maintenance and repair.

  7. May be required to obtain a military driver’s license (OF 346).

  8. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.

Preferred Qualifications

Army MOS 94M/45T Land Combat Electronic System Repairer (LCES) is preferred.
