Job Summary

Senior Structural Engineer to work on the design and analysis of advanced structures in our Manchester office. The position will entail close collaboration with other teams within our Business Unit located in offices in Manchester, Leeds and Warrington. The Business Unit is a highly multi-disciplinary, and includes civil/structural/ mechanical and electrical /process/highway engineers , architects , project managers and surveyors. From Manchester the business unit serves diverse market sectors including industrial, logistics, airports , nuclear, power and transmission, waste , energy from waste , petrochemical, infrastructure development and Government Agency work.

The Manchester Structures team undertake a wide range of structural engineering projects including complex projects which feature seismic, and other dynamic loads. These projects are undertaken to both European and International codes. As a Senior Structural Engineer you will support these projects by undertaking structural analysis using a range of industry standard analysis packages, preparing analysis, design substantiation and assessment reports, and undertaking detailed designs. The position provides opportunity for involvement in all stages of projects from initial concept, through detail design and approvals, to assessment of construction departures, within agreed programme and budgetary constraints. The post holder will frequently be called on to interpret analysis results and put forward practical engineering solutions to internal stakeholders and external clients.

This role will require well developed competencies in the analysis and design of complex structures, and the ability to produce high quality documentation to communicate findings to clients and support the design approval process. You will also be able to express complex analysis methods, concepts, and their wider practical implications in a manner accessible to non-specialists. The role will involve learning new skills that contribute to the continuous improvement and innovation within the Manchester Structures Team.

The main purpose of this role is to lead in the growth and development of the AECOM buildings business (structures)

Job Duties

  • Front end engineering and design consulting skills. It requires global client interaction as well. It is not a back office role.

  • Leading team, work winning, value engineering, knowledge of modern computational methods and technology along with operation control skills are desired.

  • Integration with other disciplines and leading the Structural design team to develop technically sound structural design solutions conforming to international standards and best practices.

  • Discuss and understand complete scope of work and the specific project requirements and set up a team to execute the work in a given time frame.

  • Provide high level value engineering led technical expertise when applying structural engineering principles, techniques and methods to the planning and design of building services projects.

  • Appreciation of Integrated Project Delivery approach and technologies like BIM ( Building information Management ) are desired.

  • Ensure all quality and environmental aspects of the project are identified and addressed to maintain effective operation and project delivery.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience on working in Structural Engineering design of High Rise Building projects, Industrial and Infrastructure Projects.

  • Experience of design RCC High end commercial, retail, hospitality, residential, manufacturing, Pharma, high rise projects using latest design and construction technologies including pre- and post-tensioned structures, temporary structures and façade systems. Design of large Healthcare and Airport Projects will be an added value.

  • Design experience in international projects along with knowledge of IS codes will be excellent plus.

  • Experience in the design of the heavy and medium industrial steel structures will be added plus.

  • Must have knowledge of governing structural design standards (Indian and International) and various design tools and software like STAADPRO, ETABS, SAP, PROKON, SAFE etc

The candidate will have/be/need to demonstrate:

  • Experience in the analysis and design of complex engineering structures

  • Be able to turn their hand to a wide variety of structural engineering problems, using appropriate analytical approaches ranging from manual calculation through spreadsheets to finite elements.

  • Ability to decide on the appropriate level of reliance and accuracy to attach to a variety of results obtained from FE analysis

  • Clarity of written and oral communication

  • Able to demonstrate an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to work largely independently in conformance with programme and budgetary constraints

  • Knowledge of relevant design and analysis software packages and familiarity with programming tools for streamlining calculation production.

  • A desire to be challenged as well as being able to contribute to the range of skills that we are able to draw on to deliver the technical aspects of projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering

  • Masters in Structural engineering

  • A good degree educated in Civil/Structural Engineering

  • Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or the Institution of Structural Engineers or equivalent Institution
