Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to be based in Manchester. You will support major design and construction projects by performing mechanical engineering analysis and design, establishing project design requirements, agreeing design criteria and estimating assumptions, directing design consultants, supporting construction and commissioning efforts, interfacing with clients customers, consultants, and construction firms.

Job Responsibilities:

You will Contribute to successful project completion by providing technical services in accordance with project time and quality. You will do this by using your experience of seeing conceptual designs through to completion and dealing directly with clients. You will be able to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way. You will also have excellent report writing skills and be confident with presentations and attending meetings with clients. Your duties will be split between technical outputs, coordinating and quality control as outlined below.

Drafting, Modelling and reporting

  • Maintain, enhance and apply both design and technical knowledge ensuring production of high quality drawings.

  • Mechanical design of heating and cooling systems, ventilation and air conditioning, domestic water services and above-ground drainage, automatic controls, BMS as well as other related mechanical utility systems as assigned.

  • Preparation of mechanical design calculations, drawings, specifications, and tender documents.

  • Participate in the design progress and coordination meetings.

  • Prepare outline scheme report / technical content of the design information.

  • Prepare specifications, schedules, drawings and any other contract documents developed through the RIBA work stages.

Coordinate and communicate:

  • Coordination with other discipline engineers as applicable for the continuity of the design process

  • Attend progress, design team and coordinate meetings.

  • Input to pre-qualification and selection of contractors, respond to tender queries, comment and review tender returns.

  • Attend tender / client interviews. Attend site inspection meetings.

  • Obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Design Consultants for the design to proceed.

  • Liaise with clients, professional organizations, contractors, suppliers, sub-contractors and other design.

  • Identify and meet effectively the requirements and expectations of clients.

Quality Control:

  • Ensuring adherence to Corporate Standards.

  • Ensuring that all activities are performed in a safe manner and comply with AECOM’s OH&S requirements.

  • Ensuring the relevant QA procedures are followed.

  • Maintain, develop and retain the highest appropriate standard of technical skill.

  • Commit to continual professional development and learning on relevant technological, business and human relationship matters

  • Ensure the project work complies with the Project Management Plan and Program.

You should be competent in using the following computer software:

  • Hevacomp – Mechanical Design Software

  • IES – Dynamic Thermal Modelling Software

  • Revit

  • AutoCAD

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant experience in design and delivery of projects within the consulting industry (preferable).

  • Candidates would ideally have experience and track record in the design of mechanical systems on a variety of building projects, i.e. retail, mixed-use developments, hospitality, healthcare, offices and industrial.

  • A BEng(Hons) Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering is required. An MSc would be preferable as a requirement to Chartered Engineer status.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience of seeing conceptual designs through to completion and dealing directly with clients.

  • The successful candidate will be working towards Chartership, and have proven design experience, delivering to quality, time and budget. This role will suit someone with a mechanical engineering / building services degree, who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, and looking to advance their career.
